Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Urgent - Boston Terrier tail docking
- By Guest [es] Date 19.05.05 17:09 UTC
I thought tail docking was banned. I am about to purchase a puppy.
It it practiced by people who want their dogs to have show quality or is it obvious when a tail is undocked. I thought the tails were short by nature.
Please clear this up for me!
Thanks so much

Docking is only legal if performed by a vet.

Boston terriers aren't a breed that's customarily docked, so this shouldn't apply anyway. The breed standard section on Boston terrier tails says: "Set on low; short, fine, tapering, straight or screw; devoid of fringes or coarse hair, never carried above horizontal."

It sounds to me as though their tails, like Bulldogs, are naturally short.

Hope this helps.
