We have got a Chihuahua pup and are wondering about her weight she is 1pound 6 ounzes, she is 10 weeks. The vet thought it was a bit light. She is fine just wondered what the average weight is.

The Kennel Club standard states weight up to 6lbs, with 2-4lbs preferred - that's an adult smooth coat.  So your little dude sounds okay to me - though obviously I'm not a vet.  My sister's long coat chi is about 5lbs, and he's 6 months old - your little girl still has growing to do.  If she's built well - you can feel her ribs but not see them, you can't see hip/spine bones - then I would say she's okay.  JMO.

Thanks to  me  she seems small but fine. I wounldn't be worried if the vet hadn't said anything. I know they vary greatly in size from weeny to small!

I have a chihuahua and she was only 1pound 4oz at 10 weeks. She is now a year old and weighs only 2 and half pounds. She is small but within breed standard. Her parents were small.
Your pup will be fine. Maybe vet is just not used to seeing such tiny dogs. It was difficult to get my chi to eat her proper puppy food. They are fussy eaters but its essential that they do eat a proper complete food to get the protein they need for good growth. I have always had mine on eukanoba. Though she would prefer to eat human food until it was coming out of her ears!

I wdn't be worried at all as the pups only 10 weeks old.  Seeing as they are only around 2 ozs at birth I'd of thought that your pups not doing too badly.  Hope all goes well, we have 2 gorgeous 12 week old pups coming to our training club and I bet one of them is about the same size and boy does he know he's cute.

Thanks he seems fine to me, we will monitor his weight though. He's having his second jab on wednesday, hopefully the vet will think hes grown.
