Maddy had 8 puppies in total, one died when it was born and another one had to be removed by c-section the remaining 6 puppies seemed to be o.k. until I lost puppy No6 early last night, I tried everything but it was all in vain I couldn't save it, I tried to tell my self it was natures way and hadn't done anything wrong, but I couldn't stop thinking it was my fault in some way. I rang the vet and took the remaining puppies for a check up, just so I could be sure it wasn't me! (better to be safe than sorry) The puppies were fine, (gave me some drops to be on the safe side) and I brought them home feeling allot better knowing that it's just natures way. Until I went back in to see them after having my dinner and puppy No4 was dead, I tried to revive her but she had already gone. Can some one please reassure me that these thing do happen for no apparent reason, I'm so upset and scared that I might loose them all.
Unfortunately as in nature with all animals us included things like this do happen. DON'T blame yourself. Just think of the remaining pups and as long as mum is well that's the main thing. Hope everything goes OK with the rest of them.
After having litters what with my parents and now me for all of my life, I still worry at conception, during pregnancy, delivery, the 7 weeks that we look after them and then for the rest of their lives. Why I've just mated one of my girls I don't know :d
Take care and once again don't blame yourself.

Sorry things arn't going so well.
When you lost number 4 was mum with the puppies? Do you think she might of sat on him/her?
I never leave my bitches alone with their puppies until they are at least 2 weeks old - even to go for a wee!!
I hope things go well from now on.... fingers crossed for you.

There is also Fading Puppy syndrome where one puppy after another dies, viral causes are suspected with canine herpes virus being implicated.
It may be worth go9ing back to the vets and getting antibiotics for the remaining pups, but sometimes they all inexplicably die.
are they feeding well and gaining weight? Is it a heavy breed and accidental crushing a possibility?
A friend of mine had a litter of 8 at christmas, sadly she lost 3 over a couple of days, but the remaining 5 grew into normal healthy pups. I'm afraid if it's meant to be it will be. Don't be hard on yourself!
Sadly IF CHV is suspected, AB's won't help!
But hopefully it's not that and that these poor babies were just the weaker of the litter and the rest will continue to thrive.
Good luck
No 6 puppy was a bit weak, but No4 was fine, Maddy is a Bullmastiff (small for her breed) Puppy No6 died while I was with her, but she was on her own when I found No4 puppy. I don't think she sat on her, the whelping pen has a pig rail and she seems to be very carefull where she lays down. I don't know what to do for the best, she is feeding and keeping them warm, I have great difficulty getting her to leave them for a wee or a little walk.
is this her first litter??
why would that make a difference if it was first litter [i worry we have just had first litter sunday
now im worrying had our first litter on satuday
Hi
How are yours doing? Do you leave the puppies with your bitch if you are not there?
my pups are all fine, i have pig rails in the whelping box which are very useful, i dont watch abbie every minute of the day but i do have a baby monitor so i can here screams if she lays on them

Don't worry because you will get me worrying more than I am already.
Rosco Jane, why do you ask if it's her first litter?
Please don't shout at me if I have got the wrong idea, but when my sister's dog had her first litter a few years back, four of her seven puppies died. The vet said it was FPS, but the stud dog owner insisted that we probably weren't keeping the puppies warm enough. We had heat pads, etc but we didn't realise that because we had no cover over the whelping box, the puppies were still getting cold. After we covered the box over and turned the heat up (Mum was panting with the heat), no more puppies died. We still don't know for a fact if this is why no more died, but do believe it is. Good luck with the remaining pups.

Don't be daft of cause we wont SHOUT at you, If you can't learn from other peoples experiences, where can you learn if it's your first litter.(books never tell you everything) All ideas and advise are more than welcome, after all that's what were all here for.

More puppies die through cold than for any other reason!
