Hello I took Rosie to obedience classes last night as she is doing her silver award, a lady who has a vicious border terrier dropped the lead and the terrier attacked a little Lab who was next to us :(

The Lab was ok and was unaffected but Rose was absolutely petrifed, she started shaking and cowering and trying to crawl to the door to escape, the class trainer told the border off and told to try and jolly out of it but she was terrifed (and people who say staffies are vicious havent met mine!!) Eventually she was in such a state the trainer told me to take her home so we had to leave early.
Got home and Rose got straight into my bed under the covers and wouldnt budge! She is very upset and is still isnt much better this morning.

Has anyone any advice or idea how I might be able to bring her around????

Thank you from a concerned mum

Hi
I don't have any ideas how to help, but I hope Rosie is okay soon. They are very sensitive dogs.
Give her lots of TLC and get her out mixing with other dogs soon, she may well forget this quickly.

they are such sensitive souls contrary to popular opinion!
Ours met chickens last night for the first time and she was more scared than they were.
She may be in shock, Giorgia would be petrified I'm sure. If it were me,I think lots of cuddles but treating her normally not with kid gloves, socialisation as normal and in a few days she will be fine. I think the more fuss is made of this the worse it is because then she will be thinking of it all the time. Hope she is better soon

Try not to give her too much attention as this will make matters worse. Business as usual and she should be ok soon :)

Poor Rosie :-( Hope she is feeling a bit more brave soon ;-), I think she is actually confused as to what breed she is, she may think she is an ickle chi or something :-D :-D :-D Sorry Lisa, just trying to lighten the mood. Going from what we have been learning at puppy class, you are meant to completely ignore it (easier said than done I know) If you console her etc you are backing up the fear and giving her reason to be fearfull, this is with puppies so may be different for adults, that I am now sure about. I would try and go about things as normal and try not to act any different when next at ringcraft. Good luck chick, and hope someone more knowledgable comes along to offer advice.

I bet Billie is growing!? Speak soon. :-)

Perhaps you could try some rescue remedy in her water to help her get over the shock.

Hello

Thats everyone for your advice, Rosie is back to normal now hoorah! After a few walks and a play with the other dogs she was back to her usual potty self.
Hopefully she'll be ok at Training on Tuesday, the instructor has told me that the Border Terrier is now doing private lessons as a few people have complained about it and after 6 months it still hasnt calmed down.

The dogs are all getting on well, Billie is keeping them on their toes! She loves a good old ear chew hee hee! and she keeps trying to bite Ronnies bits :D

glad to hear shes alright.
just a thought ...shes not pre or post season is she?
id say you are very lucky to have a dog that dosent want to fight as most dogs like to join in when theres a bit of a scrap going on
i hadnt really thought about it in this way before, but i guess just like there are BCs with no herding instinct at all, there may also be staffs with absolutley no fighting instinct.

rescue remedy can be good to "comfort & reassure" id carry a little bottle around with you then if she gets worried again you can drop a few drops on her tongue or onto her nose for her to lick off.

Hi Lisa

Glad to hear she is o.k now. Dozer had puppy class last night and he is learning "leave" now, he is really quite good. I am surprised, I had heard that bulldogs weren't easy to train but he is doing just as well as all the other dogs in the class!
Poor Ronnie!!! what does he think about his bits being nibbled :-D. I need another Billie fix! some more photos are needed, come on girl don't hog her;-)

Meet me in the chat room somewhen please?
- By Blondiflops [gb] Date 20.05.05 09:11 UTC
Glad Dozer is doing well! I bet he is getting big now!!

Ronnie leaps up on the sofa to escape the nibbleing little madam! hee hee! he runs a mile!!

I've posted new pictures and I'll mail some to you!!

Hi Michelle

She is actually due in season in the next month or so which much be why she over reacted, but she is really scared of Aggressive dogs, she always gets frightened if she hears a dog bark aggressively and will run a mile.
Rose has not fighting instinct at all! Thank god! she is happy to have a play fight but if it gets too rough she will run a mile!

I'll try the rescue remedy if we have any more incidents. Hopefully that will be the last of it, all the other dogs get on really well and I think everyone was so shocked to see that the only dog that got frightened was a staff! they couldnt believe it!
