Can some one please tell me why my four month old staffy has suddenly started to eat her own poo. up until now she always poos in the same spot of the garden and if we leave it for a couple of hours before we pick it up she will start to eat it, also i have heard that staffies suffer with flatulance, could this poo eating have anything to do with her recently starting to suffer from flatulance.

OMG do they suffer with flatulence!!! i've neva smelt anything like it in my life!!! I was told by the vet that it was to do with them eating tinned meat and to swap him over to dried. He doesn't do it so much now but still will every now and again. You could try that and see if it works for you. :)
Eating her own poo is completely normal. She may do it for several reasons, Nutrients missing in her food, Hunger or the pleasing (to a dog) scent! Its called Coprophagia.
She will probably grow out of it at around a year old. The best thing to do is to clear it up straight away to break the habit or if you wont always be able to do so, add something foul tasting (one would have thought that poo was horrible enough) to her poo to discourage her.
One theory is that a high fibre diet can decrease the likelyhood of faeces eating. Not sure if this is true but may be worth a try.
As far as the bottom burping goes I would suggest that its nothing to do with poo eating as mine doesnt clear up after himself but certainly does lots of smelly pops!
ours is smelly after she has eaten red meat. On her complete food or chicken or fish it isnt so much of a problem but Staffs are renowned for their smells. Cant comment on the eating of poo because she doesnt do it
ours is just plain smelly, no matter what he eats. We find a complete food the best for his flatulence, but he can still clear a a room. Great for unwanted guests.... :)
My staff stinks too, don't think i've ever met one that does'nt. you just learn to live with it.
hello all,try giving pup couple ov pineapple chunks/or sardines in tomato sauce....this stops them eating poo...dont know why....just tip i was told and worked...good luck...jayne
