Topic Dog Boards / Showing / face hair on Lhasa Apso

Hi we have a 14 week old male called Stuart. I'm looking for some advice on what to do re hair around his eyes.  The hair from the muzzle (if you can call it that basically consists of his nose) fans outwards and is almost completely covering his eyes.  Although he has very long eye lashes I am trying to keep the hair under his eyes down by putting vaseline on.  As I have read that eventually the hair will grow downwards.  I bathe his eyes daily to keep them clean but am worried that this may not be enough to prevent eye infections and that I should cut the hair instead.  I'm hoping to get him booked in at a groomers shortly.  It would be very helpful to hear about other people's experiences.  Regards Pam.

I have wheaten terriers and they go through the same stage. I assume Lhasas will be the same in that if the hair is cut, the problem will just re-occur - leave it and it will soon be long enough to grow the right way. As long as you make sure his eyes are clean he will not have any problems - I have 4 wheatens and they all went through this and didnt get any eye infections.

Hello Fillis

I hadn't heard of Wheaten Terriers but have just had a look at some. What great looking dogs with a temperament to match by all accounts.  I haven't cut Stuart's face hair and thought it best to leave it but just wanted to check. Many thanks for your update. Pam
