It is actually a natural response A shepherd who used my BC stud dog have a bitch who always buried her puppies under her bedding(clean dry straw in his case)she would top n tail & feed them then cover them up & take herself off to work, he tried to stop her working but she got so distressed he had to let her do her own thing. She used to pop back to see to the puppies & they were the most outgoing friendly self assured puppies I have ever met.
It is a worry & I would keep a close eye on her & make sure she is comfortable, it could be she is not yet settled with them & her protecting instincts are taking over. Seriously I would give her some
T Touch massage whilst she is with the puppies to help her relax whilst she is with them
Edited to add I would also take her for a quick check at the vets too
