Topic Dog Boards / General / Do Dyson owners still need to shampoo?
- By carene [gb] Date 17.05.05 10:24 UTC
We have a Bissell carpet shampooer, which we have only used once - last year, before we moved. We are now considering getting a Dyson Animal - since they're said to be so efficient, do people still shampoo on a regular basis? Obviously we don't shampoo on a regular basis, anyway - I'm just wondering whether it is worth us keeping the Bissell, since it's rather a large machine to be just sitting in the spare bedroom!

Shampooer's remove doggy odour, which a dry cleaner cannot do.   My carpets always look cleaner after shampooing as well, even though I use a Dyson regularly.

yes i use my bissell twice a year aswell as my dyson every day :-)... when you have kids as well as a puppy dirty feet and paws always manage to get on the carpets, no matter how hard you try to stop them lol

I certainly don't shampoo on a regular basis :D I've had the hall/landing carpet cleaned a couple of time in about 15 years. The other carpets I have never had cleaned :D

Pooooh, ain't coming to your house JG :D :D :P :p

We have a small house so any mud gets tracked into the living room from the back garden ..nothing inbetween. We have cleaned our carpet once in 4 years but with the Kirby that  I use to vaccum :)

Hi Carene,

I have an Animal Dyson and a Bissel Shampooer (and for Mel's benefit a Blaster :D ) and wouldn't be without with any of them.  If forced to choose I'd dump the Dyson - it's just a fancy coloured, awkwardly shaped, ridiculously overpriced bagless vacuum   Honestly, practically any one at half the price will do as good a job when brand new.  I had the Electroulux bagless one before the Animal and for it's first 6/9 months I'd say it was just as good as the Dyson - in it's first 6/9 months ;)  After that period whether they get less effective or, mere mortal that I am, I get more demanding  I'm not sure, but I can't honestly say that I'm ecstatic about mine.  However folllow a thorough vacuum with a deep clean shampoo and the carpets look like new for at least 4-6 weeks and then I just do it all over again :P

I'd recommend hang onto (and USE :P ) your Bissell and get an equally effective, more streamlined and less nasty plastic powerful vacuum - you'll save about £100 too. (ps. Mel, that's half way to a blaster :D :D :D )

HTH, regards Teri :)

.. I was just going to say that those of us with a Blaster just blast the dust out of the house :D !

(And tiled floors mean that you'll never have to shampoo a carpet again ;) )
