I have a bitch that was due in season  about a month ago. My male dog has been interested in her for a few days now but has suddemnly beoome more persistant. I have almost had to drag him off her just but there are no physical signs of her season. None of my others are in season either. is there such athing as a silent season>

I had the same thing with my chocolate bitch, she was due in season in the middle of march but nothing appeared, but the male dogs were following her around quite alot.My young dog kept trying to mount her in the back of the truck when we went to the woods, so just incase we walked them seperate. Then about 3 weeks ago she started producing milk, I panicked and took her for a scan but the vet couldn't find anything, thankgod. I thought she had had a silent heat and been caught, but luckily just a phantom.

Yes there is such a thing as a silent heat, if your bitch is very clean she could just be making herself very clean,  i remeber reading that one of the others put tissuse on the bitches vulva each morning to check if she was in season, you could see then if she is spotting blood.

One of my girls is going through one at the moment, maybe she did some time ago as I was expecting her to be in season last December but there were no signs.  I've only found one spot of blood and that was on Friday night and nothing since, although I keep checking her.  My boys are well and truly up for it especially her son and yesterday and today we have the lovely howling moments :d  The stud dog that I have is now telling me that she's ready to be mated so it looks as though she's been in a lot longer than Friday and boy is she flirting.

Dogs, why do we have them??

I had been trying for a litter from Tilda for 2.5 years, but she just wouldn't stand for the dog.    This year she's 5 years old, and her 'last chance'.

Had been dabbing her backside for a fortnight when she was due in - no blood, no swelling.    She suddenly started bonking out neutered dog, so I took a smear and looked at it under the microscope - she was bang in the middle of a season.

We served her, and result - 8 wonderful puppies.  (All provisionally booked)

But that, presumably, was why she wouldn't stand at the 'correct' time.   She did show minor signs of being in season, but only after she was mated.    Bizarre.

Well although I was thinking that my girl wasn't very big and was starting to question myself and my boys we managed a tie tonight so fingers crossed.  By the way, the pups are all sold :d

JO it is one thing I like about the smears they can show cell change.

I was trying to mate a bitch about 1 year ago and she was all over the shop. I decided to compare her smears with a bitch I thought was not in season and low and behold she was as well not the result I expected ..  Both bitches had funny seasons.  One wouldn't stand at all the other would stand for a month.

Nothing simple with dogs eh?
