It's my first one this morning.
I was ok with nerves but they have really got to me this morning.
I suppose this is quite normal :D

Will I even be able to move a car!
- By Natalie1212 Date 25.04.05 10:01 UTC
I am probably not the best person to give you advice as I failed my test last year, and never been back in the driving seat since, but I can tell you that you will be fine on your first lesson. I know the big shocker to me, was that you don't need to have your foot on the 'gas' to keep the car going, but you will soon see this!

This first lesson, you will probably sit in the car out side your house, or the instructor will drive you somewhere quiet, such as an industrial site, and will go through the theoretical way of driving a car, then you may have a couple of goes at starting and stopping. You will soon pick it up, it isn't the driving the car that is hard (within a few lessons you will be doing things with out even thinking about them), it is the watching everything else out side, other cars, pedestrians, dogs, kids with balls, that bus that is bound to pull out straight in front of you!

Also a good tip is, if you don't like the instructor, or you just can't seem to comunicate wth him/her, find another one, don't feel sorry for them, or think, I'll give it another go, just find a different one, if I had have taken this advice, I might have passed my test!

Good luck and have fun, if you don't like driving you will find excuses not to, when you do pass.

Thanks Natalie.
The instuctor I picked came highly reccomended so hopefully we will get on fine.
Good lord less than half an hour to go now
- By Natalie1212 Date 25.04.05 10:19 UTC
You will be fine, it isn't nearly as hard as it seems (she says who failed!!!) :D

You will make mistakes, but that is why you have big 'L' plates everywhere, make the most of it, it is the only time you will get away with going too slowly, because you are checking out the bloke in the shop ;)

Get some good sun glasses and go for a wee before you go, and you will be fine!

Let us know how you get on, when you get back if you have time.

Good luck!

I passed last year - 2nd time lucky after failing my first test before I even left the test centre!!  I was asked to reverse into a parking space which was one of my weakest manouvers and because I was concentrating on getting neatly in between the white lines that I totally forgot to look behind me and ended up in the hedge!!

It took me nearly 18 months of lessons and I thought at several points along the way that I'd never do it but it was all worth it now - no more buses to catch!!  :D

Congrats on passing, wish I had have come home the day I failed and booked more lessons and another test, but with a different instructor, now I am too busy to even think about starting again. LOL I am on here all day long!

Good Luck!!  You'll be fine.  Usually on your first lesson its more talking than driving - your instructor will get you used to the pedals etc and it'll all be very gentle and on a nice quiet piece of road to ease you in and to gain your confidence.

Keep us posted as to how you get on :D

I'm back :D
I loved it!
Theres a lot to remember and I'm sure I've forgotten it already but I managed to make the car actually move so that was more than I was hoping for.
I did get a bit floopy and slammed the brakes on when I saw something coming towards me and skidded a bit but he was very nice about it all.
He kept reminding me that it was the first time I had ever been in a car and I was doing good :D

well done glad you enjoyed it!

On my first lesson i got taken to somewhere quiet drove a bit and then he took me on a big busy road! - i failed twice with him, he spent more time on his phone than paying attention to me. After the second fail i wanted to quit but my mum got me some lessons with someone new and i passed with him 3 years ago :)

Good on you i'm glad you enjoyed it..... i failed my first 2 and then i changed instructors and pasted!!!!

I like you was very nervous because i wanted to get everything right.... but when i changed instructors to a lady i felt more comfortable.

The 1st time i failed because i was so nervous and stopped at a set of traffic lights that didn't apply to me (lol).

2nd time i failed because i did an emergancy stop and skidded

3rd time i took my test at another test centre and past!!! i couldn't believe it when he told me.

Freedom!!!!!!!

Hi Lisa,

I'm glad it went well for you, and you sound like you enjoyed it, which is the most important thing!

Well done!

Well done, Lisa :)
On my first lesson I managed to drive all four wheels up onto the pavement  - must have frightened my instructor half to death !
But 3 months and 14 lessons later I passed my test first time :)

I think the fact that I absolutely loved driving made the whole experience a pleasure rather than an ordeal.

My first lesson was awful, the instructor kept stopping at the shops and to the post office, i came home and cried and called my hubby all the names under the son lol. never did any more till a few months after and had a different instructor, he was brilliant. But my nerves were terrible. Someone suggested quiet life tablets from the herbel store. they were great, worked a treat and passed my test 1st time at the age of 30 after  26 lessons. Got loads of bad habbits now though lol.
My hubby and family were sure i wouldnt pass and i new the phone was red hot while i was out on my test, so when i came home with a put on long face, he said ah never mind love. I said what do you mean i have just seen a car for sale, get your money out lol. Gob smacked face was the reply :) :)

- By Natalie1212 Date 27.04.05 15:38 UTC
Saffie I don't suppose you learnt with some one called Zub? Worked for BSM now he works for AA, in Lancashire
- By lisab staff [gb] Date 27.04.05 16:34 UTC
I did really enjoy it :D
I have the cd-rom for the theory test and it doesn't look toooo bad.
Next lesson is on Tuesday....I hope I have retained some of the things he told me :D
- By ana_x [gb] Date 27.04.05 17:31 UTC
What's the cd called??
- By lisab staff [gb] Date 27.04.05 19:21 UTC
It's called The LDC Theory test.
Apparently it came top in a poll thing.
It is quite newish and has all these hazard perception tests too.
- By Natalie1212 Date 27.04.05 16:42 UTC
Just thought I had better add, I only asked because he was my driving instructor, and he said he had a student who failed her test because of a shaking leg, I thought it would have been few and far between to be that nervous :D
- By Lea Date 27.04.05 19:51 UTC
Dont worry, I failed my first test by turning left instead of right (I am left and right dislexic) But that wasnt the problem, I turned into a car park that had an island in the middle of it. Aparently it was a roundabout :o Never did work 6 that one out LMAO
Second one I spent half the time cursing, and slapped my face a few times. and my driving instructor told me his name was the laughing assasin before my test as he fails more than he passes, and on the way back to the test centre he was asking what I would do if I passed my test. Got back to test centre, he passed me!!!!!! I promptly head butted the steering wheel!!!!!!!!!
Now I can drive 4 differemnt vehicles a day LOL
Lea :)

Just a quick update!
I've had 4 lessons now and all seems to be going well.
I am not nervous anymore and feel a lot more confidant.
The instructor is fantastic and if I tell him little things I'm not confident about he goes over and over it with me until I am more confidant.
So all's well so far!
- By keeley [gb] Date 16.05.05 15:25 UTC
Good for you - keep it up, you'll soon be the female equivalent of a 'boy racer' :D :D :D ;)
- By justlou Date 16.05.05 23:13 UTC
Good luck..... just keep going and before you know it you'll have past your test!!!!

Take care
