I have recently moved to the UK from Australia and brought my 3 year old Alaskan Malamute with me. He is purebreed and I do have all of his papers. I have not put him in any shows but he is a very good looking malamute and does have a good blood line. Is it possible to register him with the kennel club and possably use him for stud here. If so I don't really know where to start.

Documentation needed for the registration of imported dogs:

13b.1) A copy of the official export pedigree as supplied by an organisation in the country of export recognised by the British Kennel Club.

13b.2) In the case of dogs imported from the USA, Canada, Australia or Denmark, a copy of the registration certificate issued by the kennel club of the country from which the dog is being imported, showing the dog registered in the ownership of the person registering it with the british Kennel Club.

You should be able to register him with the british Kennel Club if you have this document. Once registered, you would be able to use him 'officially' at stud. You would also need to register him here before you could show him.

We have a few Mal owner/breeders on this forum, so hopefully someone can tell you of the recommended health checks that may be required before you offer him at stud?

Once you get him re-registered with the KC, I would enter him in shows to get his face known. Get some good wins under your belt, 1sts, Best Dog, Reserve Dog etc and with luck the stud work will come in. Importantly you need to have his hips scored and eyes tested. The average hip score for mals in this country is 13, he really needs to be below this before anyone will use him.. Send me a pic via email, I would love to see him.
