My black Labrador puppy has a small white patch of fur behind his foot, on his heel. About the size of a penny. It's only really noticable when he's moving. I was just wondering if this is normal.
He's not going to be shown, but I was just interested. I assumed black labs were all black.
(My yellow lab has 1 single black hair that I've noticed on her side, I was tempted to pluck it out!!)

Yes, many have a white mark just behind the large pad. A picture can be seen
here.

Henry my yellow lab has black hairs dotted about all over him. It's his dad coming through I reckon.
Thanks Jeangenie,
That picture is exactly what it's like, and if anybody says anything, now I can give it its posh name!!

:) Happy to help! Our old lab had a couple of them. :)

Fasinating looking at all the examples of markings :) Love the one puppy with the white paw :D
Dudley has a white back paw, well half her leg which is flecks rather than totally white and has only appeared in the last year :)
She is a lovely dark chocolate brown colour in appearance though :)
Moose has a couple of white hairs and Min has lots but is 14 plus so not surprising really ! :D
LOL OUrs both have a little white. Hook has a hook shaped mark on his chest and grey around paws and muzzle. Truffle has a bolo on her back right paw, exactly where the breeder marked her when we chose her! She also has a few white hairs on her belly but I keep quiet about those. She on the otherhand shows them off to all and sundry :D
I think it is also well worth mentioning that (Banchory) Bolo made history in the British dog scene as he was the very first dual champion (bench & field).
What is the colour of the undercoat of your Lab?. The Bolo patches above the main pad as you've seen in the photos usually come from the undercoat extending down to the pads. It is not unusual for a black lab to a brownish or pale grey undercoat. Indeed some Yellow labs can have undercoats of black, grey, copper/red, brown. Indeed some black labs have undercoats that have white roots. Bolo patches are certainly looked upon as being true to lab type and are not mismarking.
My two blacks have undercoats with brownish tinge which is very visible when they are shedding.
It is said that the brownish tinge in a black coat is a sign of a true double coat - and double coats don't come so often in working/trialling labradors.
