Roy Robinson 1982 "Genetics for Dog Breeders" Pergamon Press, is a good one to start and explains the basics very well.  It does though dedicate rather a large proportion of the book to colour (a lot of it now outdated) which isn't so good unless you have a particular interest in that.  It is out of print but 2nd hand copies do come up now and then.

Malcolm Willis 1989 "Genetics of the dog"  HF & G Witherby Ltd, is more advanced and a superb book but he has done a beginner's guide type one that I don't have, that may be more suitable.  I'm sure you'll find them on Amazon if you do a search for the authors.

George Padgett. Contraol of canine Genetic Diseases..

I have just started reading it but it came highly recommended to me. :-)

Amazon was the cheapest for it. I think it will soon be out of print I am told.

Hi all, i've just ordered Malcom Willis 1989, i couldn't believe a book could cost 75 quid, Blue that book weren't on amazon, i was going to get them all until i seen the prize, so i've just got that one and it better be a good read after paying that much for it.

Warm regards Susan

Yep, they are expensive....I though you must have been a millionaire when you said you were just off to buy "them."  ;-)

Willis' is a brilliant book but if you haven't done the highschool level of genetics you might find it tough going to start.  There are some really good websites that will give you a primer course, I'll just go and find some.

Thanks Julie it's coming on Wednesday the only reason i said i would buy them all is because i thought they would all be around twenty pounds, and no more.  I weren't expecting that, but i'm going to get one a week, so i'll have a little library.

Warm regards Susan

Sorry couldn't find the site I wanted but you could have a look here http://www.canine-genetics.com/primer.htm  and also the BBC site has very good educational pages that would probably have the best introduction to genetics.
