We have a 4 month old GSD puppy - and are going away next month. My son was going to look after her but now has working committments so it seems we will have no alternative but to put her into boarding kennels. I feel awful as she is so young - so I am looking for advice and re-assurance! Will she be OK or will it do lasting damage?

Would her breeder be able to take her back for the holiday time? Some do! (I always said that I would!)

I don't know if that would be possible as the breeder is quite a way away.

How far? I'll be boarding one of 'my' pups soon (now nearly 6 years old!) for the first time, and she lives about 60 miles away.
It would be about that distance too. Do you think it would be bad for her to go into boarding kennels?

I'd say she'd be better off back at her breeder's place, in more familiar surroundings. Also you'll know she'll be getting the same devotion she was before you got her. I've no doubt also that her breeder will be much happier to have her back - have you asked?

If you choose kennels, you have left it VERY late to find space in a good one, should you find a space, go and look first.
Dawn.
When choosing a boarding kennel what should we be looking out for and asking?
This also goes for pet sitting services?
What is an average cost?
Sometimes we need this service for a weekend sometimes for a night or as short as an evening.
We have heared good rports about some in our local area but on inspection I would have to be desparate to leave our dog there, better back at the dogs home!
How long before going away or going out at short notice should I leave ideally to book a space?
Thanks

I've just been doing some research on this, and the places that sounded suitable for anything more lively than a dead stick insect were booked for months ahead - one has no vacancies till 2006 ...

Ive been very lucky and at short notice have just got mine in with a pet sitter, where they actually live in her home, this could be an option for you maybe ?
