My daughters are allergic to hair, but loves puppies and dogs. My wife and I are very keen the childern to grow up with dogs. We have heard from the US about the cross-bred Schnoodles (Mini Scnauzer x Mini Poodle). Can anyone help us locate a Uk breeder. Contact laurafrancis2005@btinternet.co.uk. Thanks in advance.

Hi Laura , there are quite a few breeds that don't moult , they include :
SOFT COATED WHEATEN TERRIER
BEDLINGTON TERRIER
POODLE
FOX TERRIER (WIRE)
YORKSHIRE TERRIER
PORTUGUESE WATER DOG
BICHON FRISE
MALTESE
AFGHAN HOUND
KERRY BLUE TERRIER
TIBETAN TERRIER
SCHNAUZERS
SPANISH WATER DOGS
All of the above are breeds rather than crossbreeds and should be easier to obtain from a reputable breeder :)
I would look into the various breeds and consider what size dog you want as well as the coat :) You should be able to find the various breeds and some notes on them here :
Kennel Club (under Discover Dogs) and some breeders and club information here :
Champdogs Guided Search Hope that helps

Is it just the hair that your daughters are allergic too?? One of my friends allergic reaction to dogs was set off by a poodle!! so there are no guarantee's that people won't be allergic to non moulting dogs.. Just a thought anyway!!

I dont think it's the hair that people are allergic to,it's the dander from the dogs saliva that causes the reaction, something to that affect anyway ;)
How come no-one ever mentions the shih-tzu and rarely the schnauzer when talking about non-allergic dogs?Neither of these dogs moult :)
Guest i would strongly advise spending some time at the breeders of your chosen dogs house, just to make doubly sure your daughter doesnt develop a reaction. There are plenty of supposed 'nonallergic' dogs in rescue with the 'owner allergic' excuse :(

My post did say 'these include' and NOT that it was a complete list. You could have just added them to a post ..

I dont understand this comment?? Mel i hope you dont think i was having a go at you,did you? :( To be honest i didnt even look at the username of your first post until your second one :p ;)
Anyways to repeat what i said above, does anyone know why these 2 breeds are rarely if at all included in the allergy free dogs?

I will add them to the list :) It is a post that I keep and post when I see someone asking about none moulting breeds :)

Hi Melodysk,
recently learned that Chows don't moult either

all that fluff too - don't know how the poor things cope

Anyway, I'm reciting your list again, and again (and again) to my Tervs telling them that if all those others can hang on to their hair then BSDs must be wooses - maybe that'll embarass them into keeping theirs :P
Teri :)

I have NO sympathy ...I now have 3 Malamutes in the house, two of which are moulting for England :D :D
The birds around here that are nesting have fantastic soft white fur lined nests and my poor vacuum cleaner nearly cries whenever I get it out (twice a day at the mo ;) )

You've only yourself to blame as I see you've just recently added to your number :D Why are our fave fluffy breeds always so b####y collectable

- maybe because we're secret bird lovers ........

That must be it ...ornithologists at heart and we just get the dogs to help the birds :p :p :p

Can't beleive that, someone must have been pulling your leg all double coated breeds like that moult otherwise they would be scissored and clipped and grwo long coats.

Oh and if you look, Schnauzers are already on the list ;) :D

I don't think its true to say these dogs don't moult at all, they just moult a lot less than other breeds.
It includes many breeds with the wirehaired gene (Wh). Doesn't mean they have wire textured hair but many of the wirehaired breeds are included. The hair has a longer retention time so grows long on face and front of legs as well as body. Exceptions to these are the Cockers (English [show not wkg] & American) and Afghan which have long undercoat growth and are not Wh but probably moult as little as Wh breeds.
julie

You will very rarely find a hair from a Spanish, the odd cord now and again !! But as others say it's nothing to do with the dogs coat it is the dander that most people are allergic to and if anyone wants a dog they need to spend time with the breed to see if they are allergic or not to them.

Quite rigth a lady bought an Elkhound from me who was alergic to dogs. she had been visiting her family in Norway with elkhounds and found they didn't affect her.
She stayed all day at my house and was also unaffected by the coats of Two Border Terriers I was looking after, but anything with a short smooth coat soon had her reaching for an inhaler.
Sadly her husband died under a year after having ehr pup, and her son and she found great comfort in the dog now nearly 8 years old.

Well my Afghan is 21 months old and has been dropping coat since 8 months old - I have puppy fluff up my nose, in my throat, in my food even in my knickers drawer :D I am not the sensitive type but this stuff can and will have me sneezing. The adult coat may stay in place but it takes two years to get there and this is not a breed to choose on the basis of a non shedding coat IMO - VERY high maintenance!
