I have an eight month Springer and the lower front small teeth are
not even, do you think at this age the teeth may even-up when
the second teeth are all through. If not, is it still worth putting the
pup in the showring, what sort of points are lost through this fault.

I would say that a Springers teeth should be a scissor bite the same as a Cocker Spaniel. The best person to ask if your dog could still be shown would be your breeder :)

The teeth will all be through at eight months.

the top teeth should come slightly forward of and down onto the lower teeth - hmmm this is hard to explain :(

Humans have a level bite...the teeth meet together :)

Scissor Bite

Scissor Bite:
is where the upper teeth just overlap and touch the lower teeth.

Level Bite: is where the teeth meet edge to edge.

Overshot Jaw:the top jaw is longer and overlaps the bottom jaw.

Undershot Jaw: is where the bottom jaw is longer than the upper jaw.

In certain breeds, an undershot jaw is a breed characteristic.

Bites

My friend has a leonberger, and before he lost a tooth was doing very well, it was knocked out while over the park playing with a gsd (not mine :D) she has a letter which she shows to the steward from the kennel club to say that it was due to an accident and not born like it, but now she either gets last or thrown out, but they say it is not because of the tooth, can you explain why one minute he was doing well, the next he is not, it should not matter with the working type dogs if they lose a tooth, the judges need to sort themselves out on this issue, as she has now decided not to show him anymore.

humans normally have scissor bites, but as with anything else you odd times get level or undershot-or overshot !!! it can in some cases change the look of the jaw line,

If you mean they are crooked then this will be considered a fault - however, if the rest of the dog is good then you might still do OK at Open shows... If the teeth are not perfect many will say you shouldn't use him/her for breeding as it is trait that will be passed on.
