Without seeing them there's no way of telling. What does the vet say?

Are they either side of his anus? is he castrated? if he isnt this happened to our lab x, around a similar age, its a peripial adenoma.Needs to be removed, and a possible castration. Its due to increased testosterone, (sp?) and if he isnt castrated  they are very common.Vet should explain to you if it is.
HTH.

Peripial adenoma? Very common? Not common enough to warrant a mention in "Veterinary Notes for Dog Owners". Google turns up [link http://www.heartwoodhospital.com/showpracfaq.cfm?FAQID=86&Private=0]Perianal adenoma[/link] - is this what you mean? I wouldn't say it's common by any means.

Edit: Drat, it won't link. You'll have to copy and paste.

Could be inflamed lymph nodes indicating some kind of infection?  See what the vet says.
Hope he's ok

As mentioned had this( if it is this of course,) with my old Lab x. Vet told me about them.He told me that they were common in older dogs that had not been castrated.
Obviously your vet will advise you.

I'm not doubting that's what your vet told you, HD, but I know very many people whose dogs are entire (stud dogs!), which get very elderly and none of them have ever mentioned this condition. I suspect it's not actually as common as your vet says ... and as the link says, it's also found in spayed bitches.
