Received a package today, with swabs, from Waltham Nutrition (makers of Pedigree Petfoods) asking for DNA samples for research into breed origins and genetics.  It does say in collaboration with Jeff Sampson KC.  There is a questionaire on health and nutrition, centered around brand choice and its appeal to owners.

Can't seem to find any more on it, not even on their website.  Does anyone know any more, apart from what's in the letter, has it been in the weekly papers?

Haven't heard of anything but have heard of Jeff Sampson in terms of research for the KC before.  If it was sent to me I would certainly be willing to help, it cannot be described as the "cruel" testing that so many accuse the food companies of carrying out :)

Julie - I wonder if they're sending out to all, or just those with interesting breeds like your Lapphunds?

Hi Jo, Isabel

No it says in the letter the top 120 UK breeds and sent to "randomly selected breeders"

It doesn't look as if the DNA research is to do with diet specifically, just that they are taking advantage of the mailing to harvest info on consumer preferences on diet.  And who can blame them!  If they are funding the DNA research they have my backing too :-)
