My dog is one year old and she has been making grunting noises like she has a stuffy nose, it lasts about 30 seconds or so then she is fine but it is becoming more regular the past couple of days she is very lively and eating well she has also been sneezing a bit too, does anyone know why this is happening?

Could be kennelcough or an allergic reaction to something.  If you take her to the vet ask them to come and see her in the car or at least leave her there until your appointment to avoid infecting others in the waiting area as it can be very dangerous to the young, old and frail.

It could also be a 'backwards sneeze', which many dogs seem to do without it causing them any harm.....

Most of my dogs have done this at one time or another.  Sounds like a "building site" snort to remove phlegm (yuk, sorry) and none of mine are any worse off for doing it

Cheers

Now that y'all mention it... This happens to my little one rather frequently.  Sometimes she ends up vomiting from it.  We were thinking maybe she has asthma.  Any further ideas?  Should we be concerned that she does it frequently?

My Westies do it quite often and as Digger has said i think it's a backward sneeze.

Warm regards Susan

I believe it is related to the dust, change in pollen, grass etc Summertime brings so much along with it.

I started my hayfever tablets last week and that usually is about the sametime I hear people saying their dogs are reverse sneezing.

Of course you would need to speak to your vet but Piriton or an alternative remedy for pollen I think works.

I have been reading it on a few on the boards I am on just now.
