Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / LOWCHEN / K.C CAV AS FAMILY PET?
- By Guest [gb] Date 12.05.05 09:49 UTC
I am taking my time in deciding on a dog as a family pet. I am steering towards a cavalier king charles spaniel but am trying to find out about lowchens.  Would welcome any info from lowchen owners on the suitablility of these dogs as family pets. My son is rather nervous of large dogs but likes the kc cavaliers are lowchens similiar in temperment. As a pet I won't want to have it shaved are there any photos of pet lowchen rather than the "show" dog. Is there alot of grooming involved?  thank you j.dee

Hi Guest
I have 2 Löwchen males aged 8 and 3. Like you I am not keen on the show trim so they just get a general tidying every few months. Daily brushing is advisable though.
They're companion dogs, love the home and family life, they're lively, very affectionate and a joy to own.
I have lots of photos of my boys  - I will be happy to e-mail a couple to you if you'd like to let me have your details.

Any more questions, just fire away :)

Freeway who was in Hart to Hart the TV series was an unclipped Lowchen & the main dog in the Bakers add looks like(but isn't)an untrimmed Lowchen

Edited to add most of the ones I have met at shows are very friendly & outgoing
