Hi. My 5 month old lab puppy has a habit of lying on top of you if you are lying on the couch, or trying to sit on your shoulders if you are sat down! This obviously is causing problems as he is getting bigger but we are in the process of trying to get him out of this habit. The question I have is, is this a sign of dominance or does he just think he's a chihuahua?! :-)) We have never encouraged this type of behaviour - he has just picked it up himself. It's not worrying us too much as he responding to us and beginning to stop doing it...just curious as to why he did it in the first place.

Lets just say the alpha in a dog pack is more likely to be found at the bottom of the pile than the top - the top is too drafty!

If I even contemplate lounging on sofa, you will find me under 7 Labs. The only way out is too slink off sofa onto floor, If.....no-one is standing on my hair.
Edited.
I don't think they can spell, ie Lab dogs not Lap dogs. :D

Actually, if I were more honest I would say under 5 dogs, two of them would be still trying to climb up by the time I make my getaway :)
I feel better knowing this is quite normal! My other dogs have never done it so a bit of a suprise when he started climbing up to our heads! He must like the 'human perseptive' view he gets up there! :-)

Perfectly normal!
My 'bottom of the pack' lurcher lays over anyone sitting down, he just likes cuddles, thats all!
