hi evryone i'm new to this forum, just like to ask, my is on day 25 after mating and my other dog (neutered)keeps trying to mount her, either end (he's not fussy), he's also following her everywhere and always licking her behind. is this normal, is she giving off some sort of scent?

any advice would be great

Hi there and welcome to Champdogs.

My bitch is on day 43 and my male dogs are still foloowing here around and even the other females have a good sniff as they do give off a different scent. I would try and stop him mounting her though as she could turn on him as hormones run high and any fights or upsets and cause absorbtion of the puppies.

Good luck and keep us posted.

thankyou for the reply, i do stop him when i see him 'trying' but wasn't sure if it was the norm. not sure if he would know what to do any way lol!!! will keep you posted, she's got a vets appointment next week to confirm pregnancy so i'll let you know how it goes. this is her first litter so i'm not sure if she definately is pregnant, but if she's giving off this scent then do you think she is?
thanks again jjr

Could be, but saying that I have a bitch who has been having a phantom pregnacy and they follow her as well so its not a definate indication. My bitch has a clear opaque mucas from the lets say "private area" !!!! from about 4 weeks and this can be a good sign of pregnancy.

Its so exciting isn't it, is this your first litter as well? Its not mine but I still get nervouse and excited and panicky all at the same time!!!

yes it's my first litter, i feel so nervous and excited at the same time lol!!!!!
i wasn't like this with my own children. i suppose its because you know whats going to happen. where as with dogs you don't. i've got 'the book of the bitch' so i'm reading that for about the 100th time. just can't wait, seems ages away.

It goes so quick, soon you will running around feeding, cleaning, playing, feeding, cleaning, playing and so the circle continues.

You will find that they are little time wasters too. I will say to my boyfriend "Just going to feed the pups" and he won't see me for about 2 hrs, I can just sit and watch them all day, even when they are just born and all they do is sleep, they are just such little miracles.

The book of the bitch is a excellent book, although my favourite book is "The technique of breeding better dogs" by Dr Dieter Fleig.

Make sure you get all you need before she gives birth, so that everything is on hand especially the vets number.

People on here will be glad to give you all the help they can, so now's the best time to ask all the questions you want too.

thanks again jjr
