Has anyone any ideas how I can stop Sam chasing birds? He is very good in the garden as he just sits for ages and watches them but when we're out on walks his recall is none exsistent when he sees a bird. Its getting to the point that I don't want to take him out as I'm so worried I'll lose him. He used to be so good maybe his age might be something to do with it he's now 15 months. Can anyone give me any advice please?

Mine chase birds too, well one in particular does. Personally I don't mind, he'll never catch one and the fat seagulls could do with some exercise to burn off the junk they eat! :D However, if he doesn't come back that could be a problem. You could try this, it works with most dogs in this and similar situations..... At the point he starts to run towards the birds...you run in the opposite direction flapping your arms, leaping about and making high pitched daft noises!!! Honestly, they are usually so intrigued by what you are doing they come racing after you, not to be left behind if nothing else. :-) Go on try it, you feel a bit of an idiot but you could always pretend you were being chased by a wasp! :D lol

One of mine a great 'bird dog' - I've even known him managed to leap and take low-flying pheasants out of the air! (Yum!) He's learned now when the bird's going to get away and gives up the chase - which is a relief, because he used to chase low-flying aircraft!
lol@JG :D
The one who chases birds also chases flies and will run about in huge circles taking off every now and then like he's trying to fly! He makes the most ridiculous noises while he's doing it and of course no one can see the flies so people walking past look most confused! Earlier on I caught him 'singing' at the end of my bed. He was watching the goldfish swim in circles and every time they circled towards him he reached out open mouthed. :p

LOL @ the dog with the goldfish! :D
My one tries to chase larks vertically, and gets very cross when gravity defeats him!
I just put the fish in a bucket ready to clean them out. He hasn't moved, sitting there staring at them, almost willing them to jump into his mouth. Failing that, I did catch him drinking the water. You can imagine it can't you. Little fishy tail fin hanging out of his mouth...[muffled voice] 'What? I was only having a drink, can I help it if your fish are suicidal?' :p

"What fish? Agh yuck - how did
that get there?" *spit spit* :D :D
No JG, with him it would be more like, 'Gulp,....now what are you gonna do about it?' :D :D :D
