Little Alf (Irish Setter) is nearly 7 months old and im having problems with him guarding his bones etc.  He goes around and gathers up all the half eaten tripe sticks and other various unmentionables he can find and then lays there and if Fagan or the cats come near him he growls at them, he even steals the cats mice and growls and them if they try to go near them :(

In fact I have just taken his latest collection away from him because he just went for Fagan.  He is ok with me taking stuff, should I be worried about this or is it normal puppy behaviour ?

Claire :)

Resource guarding is normal and I would not worry about it unless of course it extends to you and your family.

the easiest way to prevent it is not allow him anything to guard......................
