Hey Leigh (and anyone else),

Just want to ask about elbows. lol!
Is it a big problem if a bracco bitch has some problems with her elbows but you want to breed? I have been offered an adult bitch but she has elbow probs. Her hips are B???

Thank you

Mistress :)

Hi Mistress.

Well... the simple answer to your question is a very definite "Yes it is a problem!" Apart from the obvious genetic factors, the bitch will eventually be in some degree of pain (if she isn't already). You will never be able to show her and I doubt that she will be able to walk properly, let alone work ! A major part of what makes a bracco "A Bracco" is its movement. There is no way that this bitch is going to be able to move properly. This is no doubt why the breeder is happy to part with her. I know that you are very determined to get a bracco, but if you are serious about breeding then it is in your interests and those of the breed to buy the best breeding stock that you can. The bracco is a heavy boned dog and construction is vital if he is to do the job of work that he was developed for. Do you really want to pass this fault on to the next generation ? Just out of curiosity is this bitch from Belgium ?

Yes, I was very worried about that. I know it is genetic, but I wasn't sure how bad the problem was. I did ask the breeder many questions about why she wanted to sell the dog and she said she isn't what she is looking for in a bracco to breed. She will cost me £1800+ to get her over here as well as the problem, so I emailed her this morning and said I think I may have to pass, but I just wanted to know what you thought. I am determined but not that determind! Lol! I don't want to bring any Braccos into the world that may grow up to be in pain and a risk to their own pups.
Looks like I will have to wait another year, *sigh*! ;)

Thanks Leigh,

Mistress :)

Ps. No, she isn't from Belgium

Oh, and Leigh......

I have just been told that clean elbows are 0, but her's are 1. Is it still bad?

Leigh, how come I never see any Bracco's being shown? There never seem's to be any at shows I have been to, even champ shows and I would love to see them in the ring.

Ta. :-)

Hello Claire.
Well they are there but in very small numbers. Have you looked at the Import Register classes because that is where you will find them. There will always be bracchi present at all the big champshows :-) The best place to see them is in the field anyway ;-) Then you can really appreciate their movement.

Your're right Leigh, I haven't looked at the Import Register Classes but I certainly will from now on. I do still plan to ask my friend about going out on a shoot (think it starts again on 10th August ?) to watch but I don't think there will be any bracchi present unfortunately infact I don't even think I'll see any weims ! Must look into it further though, I tried to get the shooting times today just for a little looky but the shop I was in didn't have any copies.

I would just love to see the dogs working.

Thanks.

There's nothing quite like seeing dogs doing what they were bred for. I find it such an interesting subject and just to stand on a shoot watching the wild life, deer, hare, fox (we dont shoot groung game on my shoot) All kinds of birds feed there! Without the shoot a whole lot of the local wildlife would either not exist there or would be spread so thin on the ground that you'd never see it.

Couldn't agree more John :-) They don't know what they are missing do they.

Claire, contact the Weimar Club (or any of the HPR Breed Clubs) they may be planning some field training days or field trials that you could go and watch :-)
If you need any help with contact numbers let me know.

I can verify that they are there in the import register classes and what a lovely looking breed they are. Too big for me though!
