I have 2 Bullmastiffs , one age 6 months and one age 4 months . Last night they decided to chew the door frames in the kitchen , where they sleep. They have never done this before. I know that this breed is known for this , but has anyone got any ideas of how to stop them !!
I was thinking of buying some door frame protectoes ??? does anyone know of where to buy these from ??....

Hi
We had problems with our Shar Pei when he was young - he chewed through the bottom stair - carpet and all - shame we had just had all new carpet! We brought one of those anti chew sprays which didn't work! Yours will give up on it I'm sure - is there anything u can put nearby to stop them getting to the door frames?
there's nothing that i can put there .... not that i can think of at the moment, but i'll keep on thinking ! How old was your sharpei when he/she stopped ??
Hi Kelly why dont you try rubbing some vics vapour rub on the skirting boards or olibus oil these are suppossed to stop dogs from chewing things you dont wont them to chew, i have a bullmastiff also she is 4 months old, i just give her bones to chew, with me having to littlens she tries to chew their toys but i say no and give her her bones to chew she has cottoned on to what she can chew and what she can't chew or you could by a kongo and stuff it with salmon paste with some biscuits in to occupy them through the night with their teething problems you can also put kongos in the freezer for abit so they are nice and cold for their gums. Have you got two of the same sex?
Regards Susan
the eldest bullmastiff is male the youngest is female. I think i'll buy the kngo's for them, the only problem i have there is that they fight over eachothers treats/bones/etc. Plus i cant seperate them at night as they whine for each other.....
The only thing i can think of is to crate them, the downside is though they would probably cry because they are restricted and they are not used to it, the otherside though no more chewing skirting boards or fighting over toys and at least they could see each other. Maybe someone else might have some tips if you dont wont to crate them. What are you going to do with your male when your female comes into season?
Warm regards Susan
Harry is going for a holiday to my sisters !!! Where he can be spoilt rotten !!! We go to my sister now each weekend so hopefully he wont find it too stressfull.
He probably wont find it to stressful if he's used to going there, all the best to the future with your dogs, good luck.
Warm regards Susan
i hope so ... thanks for your advice,
kelly xx
