My bitch is in labour and I think one of the puppies are stuck. I can see the head but am frightened of putting my hand near her when she is like this. Any suggestions?

Call your Vet now!

Insert your fingers gently but firmly and as she is contracting gently ease the pup out.
Do it now or lose the pup and any other behind it.
GENTLY
Always go with the contractions, above all dont panic stay calm for your baby, how long as the pup been there?

Sorry folks but I wouldn't advise anyone without knowledge of canine anatomy or experienced guidance to interfere internally with a bitch whelping. I've seen too many problems caused by human ignorance. Whilst Vets aren't always the most knowledgeable about whelping, in the absence of an experienced dog breeder to assist, then the safest advice, for the sake of the bitch, which must surely be the prime concern, is to contact your Vet.
I always ask, would any of you be prepared to have a baby with only your inexperienced best friend at your side as opposed to an experienced midwife??????
I understand Val but if this is, this guests first litter she might be panicking and the dog might not be in any trouble aren't puppies heads suppossed to come first, as for midwifes my first child, the midwife was a complete cow she nearly put me off having kids for the rest of my life, what a traumatic time that was.
Warm regards Susan.

I wasnt saying to go internally to far but the head was visible.
I fully agree with you though, but sometimes you need to act quickly.
Sometimes you cant get to a vet quick enough.
How is the bitch Guest???
