I guess like me most of us had out 1st experience of an EBT with the Oliver film. Although the dog was fine in the film its owner was a really nasty peice of work, I wonder could this be connected in anyway.
AS we mostly see the rough collie as a nice character as with Lassie and the Dalmation as a good character.
I know this point might seem a bit childish but isnt that where we get our fears and likes and dislikes from what we experience as children.

I think that possibly everyone on here has got an irrational fear of something in someway,(mine being spiders, and I am pretty certain I have never been attacked by one!!), I just don't like them simple as that. Quite a few people I have met are wary of my 2 Bulldogs, and it is purely on their looks alone, as after they have plucked up courage to ask me about them they are usually surprised by their softy nature. I am in no way saying every dog is sweet underneath an otherwise fierce persona, as they are not, but I do feel that most bull breeds in general tend to get a bad rep. I used to work in a boarding kennels and only 1 dog used to send shivers down my spine. He was a border collie, who would only tollerate men, but I haven't formed the opinion that all borders are nasty. I hope you find someway to cope with your fear. Best wishes Deeva

I have an irrational fear of bridges which makes life a wee bit difficult as most of the roads around here have bridges somewhere along them

I can't help, just wanted to say, it's great that you're trying to confront your fear, and I hope all goes well for you.
To be honest EBT's are not a breed that I've ever been afraid of, and I've not heard much bad press about them either.  I'm terrified of Rottweilers, though I have no need to be, I've never had a bad experience with one.
I own 7 GSD's though....fear is a strange thing, and I really applaud you for trying to do something about yours.
Best of luck,
Lisa

Just a few points that i tend to find have confused most people.

Bull Terriers, as opposed to Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Pit Bull Terriers etc, were NEVER EVER bred as a 'working' dog, or a fighting dog.

They were and still are, a companion dog, able to perhaps do a bit of ratting arond a yard maybe, but primarily as a 'show' dog (not necessarily at dog shows, just to look good!).

They have no Pit Bull blood in them, they are not used in breeding other types of fighting dog as they ahve no urge to do so.

They ARE a big strong dog, they ARE in general fantastic wtih people, and you have less reason to fear them than your average JRT, Collie, or Poodle. (nothing against these breeds but ive been bitten or scared by more of them htan of bull terriers, yet there are MORE bull terriers near me than any of these!)

You did forget one thing They have a very wicked sense of fun ;) I once had one of Ken Morrow's try to sit on my knee when I was standing up once, result me & the dog in a heap & me having my face washed whilst the EBT sat on my chest :O

Ive got a Bull Terrier and I can honestly say he is as nutty as fruit cake. I saw a male Bull Terrier at the Paignton Championship Dog show and the dog was deperately trying to pee on his masters leg while in the show ring. The owner looked really embarrassed with everyone looking and laughing and looked absolutely confused as to why the dog was doing it. This may give you an idea how crazy this breed of dog really is.
