I am the proud owner of a Shih Tszu puppy bitch.
She is 9 weeks and is a little darling very bright for her age.
The one thing I am not able to control is her eating her own body waste.
She know I am behind her ready to pick it up and she has began to back on to it and then eat it.
Why is she doing this, will she grow out of it and how can I stop it.
Please help me on this problem

My dog used to do this but since changing her diet to BARF she does not do it anymore. Harder poops must not taste as nice.

i was told that they did this coz of bein on tinned meat and to change onto dried food

It could be that in the past she's been scolded for messing in the wrong place and so is 'hiding the evidence', though this is usually the reason in a pup older than yours. It could be that, as you say she's bright, she thinks her poo is a valuable resource (that's why you're so quick to get it) and is competing for it ...
I suggest that you have her on a collar and lead outside and stand in front of her, rather than behind, so that she can't go backwards when she's finished, but rather you can call her forwards to praise her, and clear up a bit later.
Good luck.

My 12 week old beagle does this. He has never been scolded for doing it in the house. He actually poops while walking around in a circle so he can eat the first bit while he is still going. Generally i clear it up very quickly, but my husband is not as quick. I also call him away immediately and give him loads of praise, but when he returns to the garden he runs strait to the spot, (it is already gone). Someone suggested feeding him pineapple but this made him really sick, does anyone have any ideas on the cause of this or how to stop it, or will he grow out of it?

How did you feed the pineapple? Chunks or puree?

hi just thought i would let you know that in pet shops they sell tablets called deter, they are about £5 for over 60 and are supposed to stop dogs doing this. Obviously seek vets advice before trying them, I am not sure if i am brave enough to as my baby gets a bad tum looking at the wrong food, lol, but perhaps they may solve the issue. Hope this helps. xx
