Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Advice re puppy with ticks

We have a 14 week old standard poodle puppy . I was horrified last night to discover she was covered in tiny (pinhead -sized) ticks. I also found 4 large ticks.  I groom her every day but didn't notice them until 2 appeared next to her eye.  Once I started looking there were more and more of them (I've removed 60 so far and around 20 left). We have bought some frontline from the vets, who says I will have to keep treating her every month. (She was treated 6 weeks ago by her breeder so it obviously doesn't last v long). We live next to a field which has sheep on it in the Winter then grows the grass long for silage in the Summer. She has never been in the field itself.

My question is: is there any alternative to exposing her to strong pesticides every month for the rest of her life? Does anyone have any other advice about prevention/ treatment? And I always thought that a dog may pick up a tick or two, not 80!! Is this normal? I would really appreciate anyones advice/ experiences.  Helen

Th Ingredients are full strength oils:
Tea Tree Oil
Rosemary Oil
  Sage Oil
Cedarwood Oil
Peppermint Oil
Sweet Orange Oil
Eucalyptus Oil
Citronela Oil
Pine Needle Oil
Directions:  Mix 4-6 drops each with 32 oz of any natural shampoo and you now have a natural flea shampoo, or Mix 2-3 drops each with 16 oz. Water in a spray bottle.  Shake before each application and spray lightly over entire body.

Repels fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, flies and also makes the van smell great Spray dogs, and blankets.  Use before going into the show ring instead of those other sprays; no chemical smell spray.  This stuff smells great,   dogs look great, give additional shine to their coat
