We always go camping but Charlie (Male dally) hasn't been before so we weren't expecting it to go perfect but weren't prepared for this.
We took his cage and blanket, toys etc. to make him feel more at home.
We prepared as much as we could to make it less stressful for him.
Friday night he kept moaning and barking at all the noises but nothing too bad.
Saturday we decided to take Charlie and Casey (female dally) out for a walk and after a couple of hours of walking through a forest we reached some toilets, I put Casey back on her lead and Charlie was already on his lead and my bf stood outside while I went to fill their water bottle up, I heard a commotion and came running out of the toilet to see this monster of a dog which looked like a X boxer/rottweiler attacking both my dogs. My bf was struggling to hold onto both of them as Charlie was wanting to have a go back and this woman came out of the female toilets with a broom in her hand and made a pathetic attempt to control her dog by screaming at it.
This dog had no collar, lead on.
I eventually managed to get hold of Charlie by throwing myself in the mud and grabbing his back end.
When she eventually got her dog she put it in the empty toilet and came out to apologise.
She said she had had the dog five years and it had improved since she got it.
This stupid woman belonged up the road from the toilets and it was obviously her job to clean them and she brings the dog down with her.
My bf and me were both shaking, I have hurt my thumb, Charlie has a couple of grazes on his leg and Casey seems to have got away with no markings.
I was furious that someone could let their dog wander around a public place on a Bank Holiday weekend knowing it was aggressive without a muzzle on.
charlie is aggressive and there is no way he is let off his lead.
That was Saturday.
Sunday morning we had the worst thunderstorms I have ever heard for a long time and Charlie was terrified, luckily he was lying with me when the first rumble came. I haven't seen a dog shake like this before. He hid under the blanket and was practically sitting on me. The thunderstorm went on for about 40 minutes and Charlie continued to shake throughout. We had the radio on as loud as we could and I stayed with him on the bed. Casey slept through the whole thing.
Apart from those two incidents I think he coped very well considering he was in his cage a lot more than at home and his routine was messed up a bit.

Do you go camping with a tent or a caravan. We camp with a caravan and all the sites we have been to have rules that say all dogs, friendly or not must be kept on lead at all times. I certainly would have made a fuss and official complaint if this had happened to me. Like Charlie our Gabi is the same and not friendly to other dogs so is always on lead. We have found that not everyone obeys the rules but it is the camp sites resposibility to see that there own rules are upheld and certainly as regards one of their employees. Where do you live?, we live in Liverpool and so we mainly camp in Wales. I hope this experience has not put you off. We have been taking Gabi for over a year and have never had anything like this happen to us.

We camp in a tent and it wasn't on site where this happened.
We live in Newcastle.
no it hasn't put us off, we'll be going nearly every weekend in the summer as usual.

On no! :(

What a terrible thing to have happened - nothing angers me more than idiots who let known aggressive dogs to wander and attack other dogs.
There is no doubt that this will have a negative effect on Charlie's training :( and it won't be something he will forget in a hurry.

Really sorry to hear how disappointing the holiday was for you! Bet you were glad to get home!

I must admit when we had got over the shock I wondered how it would affect Charlie, it shook Casey up, she kept very close to us for the rest of the day.
Apart from those two incidents we had a good time even with three teenage boys with us.

Im sure the site owners wouldnt be to happy knowing she brings an agressive dog to work with her. I would complain. Next time the other dog in question might not be so lucky.
We took our Sheena(Akita) camping with us last year. 1st time ever. She was very well behaved all the time.
We had an incident with a JRT running around her while she was on the lead.
The owner was aware as it ran rings round Sheena, Sheena wasnt too happy getting all tangled up in her lead. Why are some people so irresponsible.
