I had a terrible night last night, i pulled my duvet back to get into bed and this bl--dy great big spider ran across my pillow. It was so big it frightened my dog. I had to get it as i wouldnt have slept in that room until i did. My bedroom looked like a bomb site when i finished lol. i didnt sleep to well at all in case there was more, My eyes look like p-ss holes in the snow this morning. Its because it rained last night and hubby went off to spain with the golf boys, that they decided lets go in to janes house. I was looking forward to haveing the bed all to my self, and the dog of course. I hate spiders so much that i have to admit they get me really upset :( I past my fear of them on to the boys when they were little, but glad to say the 3 of them are ok with them now :) But i think the dog is a bit worried now, especialy with mum screaming and running around the room ( at my age too tut tut)

Where there's one spider, theres usually a nest with 20 more

;)
Seriously,i cant stand the thought of a spider crawling over me while i sleep so i spray surface spray all the way around the bottom of my bed, they would have to crawl over it to get to you,so hopefully will die!!!
Unless ofcourse they dangle down from the ceiling on the end of their web and jump on your face!!!
Sorry,no help at all :D Try the surface spray,i havnt seen a spider anywhere near my bed since using it :)
I know how you feel,i have an extreme phobia with mice and rodents in general,i would move out of my house if i saw a mouse(Rat,and i would have a heart attack) until every hole was blocked and every nook and cranny was exterminated!!

Im always hoovering them up and im clean in my home. One night i was fast asleep and during sleeping i felt something in my mouth,i bit it and the most bitter taste came, in the morning i presumed i must have bitten into a spider YUK!!!!!!!!!
Omg sullysmum........ i hate spiders, i also have a panick attack if i see one.
Once i was in the bath relaxing and a spider decided to join me...... i've never got out of the bath so fast!!!!!
I hate it when i'm sitting in the living room at night with the lights out and something crawls across the floor, i soon have my husband looking for it.
I went in to a pet shop once to look at some fish and right behind me was a trantular (hope i've spelt that right) i soon ran out the shop screaming...... so your not the only one who hates spiders.
Take care
kerry. xxxxx

Yes i dont like spiders but hubby has a phobia to them, so i 'HAVE' to get rid as he cant, its okay though as i have loads of ocds/phobias so we share, lol.
Oh my god, the stories of spiders, stop it lol. I am a clean freak too, on my second hoover this year. Glad i didnt go to bed early as it may have crawled along my face :( :(
Thanks frodo, you made me feel worse now lol, at there beening 20 more. Never thought of surface spray. will try it

*shudder* I had this happen once - but I was in bed at the time!! I was jsut drifting off, it was pitch black, and I heard a tiny noise on my pillow - thought a fly had landed on it. So I got up and turned the light on - there was a huge daddy longlegs sitting inches above where my head was, quite happy! I caught it and threw it out the window, but I had to sleep downstairs that night, I just couldn't sleep in the bed again - much tidying the next day!!
Strange thing is, I'm fine with tiny spiders and tarantulas. go figure!

Those daddy longlegs leave the hugest webs in the corners of the ceiling,i'm forever vaccumming up there!
Do you know that daddylonglegs are one of the most venemous spiders, but their weak fangs cant penetrate through our skin, thank gawd!!,
>i bit it and the most bitter taste came<
Oh my lordy,that is vile

Crane flies (Daddylonglegs) are not an arachnid (Spider) they are merely large flies. http://www.the-piedpiper.co.uk/th6g.htm
To simplify - spiders have 8 legs, flies have 6!
I am not bothered by spiders, flies etc. one little bit. All spiders in this country are harmless, your dog more than likely got a fright at you shrieking not the size of the spider, most dogs I know who saw a spider would sniff it or try to eat it.

So christine is the info i wrote above incorrect?
I cant even remember where i heard about the venom/daddylonglegs?? How come they make such freaky webs? They look more like dust strings tho, does anyone know what i mean,or do i have mutant spiders in my house?
Oh and lazydaze i'm only joshing you about the 20 more ;) It's more like 100,joke,joke :D

Frodo,
If you cut & paste the link I mentioned you'll see that Crane flies are pretty harmless things, just all wings & legs - they don't even eat - and they can't spin webs, maybe the corners of your rooms are needing a little dust & they get caught up in there?????????? ;) :D
Gosh i have stared some debate now lmao :) All i no is that they scare me, and it had a very fat body and long legs. I havent seen a spider in my house for a Quite a while, just odd one now and then. He just decided to pick on me last night lol. I did frighten the dog bless her :)
Jane
Hi, had to clear things up a little. I think Frodo is talking about the "daddy long leg" spiders, the ones with a small body and huge long spindly legs. Christine, I think you are got confused and thought Frodo was talking about flying daddylonglegs aka crane flies. No where in Frodos post did it mention wings! :-) Sorry to butt in, but wanted to try and sort things out before it started an arguement.

Well, so sorry..if Daddy Long Legs was written how was I supposed to know it wasn't the commonly known Daddy Long Legs but a harvest spider????? Confused I ain't!
I was not being nasty Christine, I was just pointing out that there had been a slight misunderstanding and if you read you original post again I think you will see why I wanted to clear things up. It came accross as a bit patronising to say the least. :-)

Have to admit that I thought there was only one sort of Daddy Long Legs until today ...the flying kind :) We get those huge long legged spiders with the teeny bodies and I usually call them harvest spiders .......you live and learn :D

Thanks Mel! ;)

daddylonglegs are those stoopid ones that fly at you and are the stuff of nightmares - spiders with wings IMO :D :D
Those ones with the body and legs like this /\o/\ are equally vile aswell!!

Daddy long legs is merely a common name SOMETIMES given to crane flies OR 'harvestman' type arachnids - these are the technically known as opiliones (classed differently to spiders because of the way the body is divided or not in this case :D) If anyone is interested you can look up Pholcus phalangiodes - this is the specific name given to the animal that I believe you are referring to when you say daddy long legs (spider version :D) and are particulary common in corners of rooms and out-houses!
Sarah :)
Lol...... if my dog see's a spider he will eat it or play with it first then eat it.
I'm also on my second hoover this year..... but i dont know why lol.
Take care

you would get on with my daughter who woke everyone up at 6 yesterday morn screaming cos there was one on the towel in the bathroom. not that i like them but it was small compared to what we normally get in!
t
Yes i would lol, i would that as well. Everyone just laughs at me. My mum lives with us and if shes one she will get of it, or say dont panick jane lol. then up goes my feet on the chair.
I hate the little critters too, but the worse is when they creep up on you :-( Like when you lift up the washing-up bowl and there is one underneath, or it's in your towel or clothes. Oooooooooooo they are making me itch just thinking about the little evil blighters from hell, I have got goosebumps!
oh dont talk to me about spiders im terrified of them,to many legs and to quick uurg! but wasps they are the worst you wont even get me in a house with 1 !lol :)
just 1 thing as well i dont think the way you spoke to tygerlily was very fair christinew, tygerlily was just trying to explane that youde missunderstud the poster.no need to bite her head off!:(
Christine that was a bit nasty...... but i better watch what i say, otherwise this subject will be locked!!!!!!
its my fault for posting about my night with the whopper spider, so sorry :(
It isn't your fault at all Lazydaze. :-)
My sister doesnt like wasps either, i think its because she has never been stung by one and she had read stories of people dying of a wasp sting. I am ok with mice and rats they make good pets lol. prob because my dad had 2 when i was little and ended up with hundreds lmao. he didnt think they would breed so quickly :)
Lol Lazy.... it's not your fault at all, i hate wasps because as a child i was stung by one.
I don't know why i'm petrified of spiders.... i just am
I also hate mice..... really i hate anything that moves except dogs and cats..... oh and fish are o.k as long as i dont have to touch them.
Take care.

Well the ones in my house definately do not have wings, they have eight legs and i am more than sure that they are spiders, harvest spiders obviously :)
FWIW i vaccum every day ;)
Have avoided this thread for a while because I hate spiders so much, but have to tell you about my most horrid experience to date. I had left my jeans hanging over the bannister and put them on in the morning and went downstairs to make breakfast. When in the kitchen I felt a tickly movement against my leg - well you have NEVER seen anyone get their trousers of sooooo quickly...... and yes there was a huge spider inside. I felt sick for hours - such a wimp I know, but I always check my jeans and shoes now before I put them on.
Fiona
lol fiona, i think that beats my night of horrors. Given up on my spanish, too dam hard, mind you i should know a bit by now. have been going to evening class once a week for 23 weeks. its all that masc & femn.
Going to bed now have checked and double checked my bed for creature comforts yuk yuk.
Take care all xxxxxxxx

i dont mind spiders!!! but ive had a tic on me three times!!! do i need frontlining??? & once i put my foot in a sock & it had a wasp in it!!!!
you need my tara lazydays. shes a "working spider" dog. she will herd them with her nose & tap them with her foot. sometimes they get squashed....but she dosent mean it just wants them too run!!! (life with a collie huh!_)
I will take you up on that offer lol. Frontlining lol. I had to laugh last night , i checked and double checked my bed, then blossom got on the bed and sniffed all around by my pillow and head board. Then she must have thought about and got of the bed and in her basket which she never goes in at all :) so i didnt sleep thinking maybe there were some more there lol.
Jane
Lol Jane....... they say a dog senses things, i had one yesturday in my washing as i fetched it of the line..... i just stood there screaming lol.
Take care
kerry xxxxxxx
lmao kerry.... I think the neigbours must think we are mad with all the screaming. Thats horrid a wasp nest, they really do attack. Your hubby was very brave lol.
Ana i dont mind butterflies, havent seen any with no wings before tho. Did they eat your clothes?
Take care love Jane xx

You know what's just as bad as spiders??
BUTTERFLIES!!
Minus the wings they are just as scary/discusting as spiders... I had a nest of butterflies in my wardrobe once and everyday I would just find this random butterfly or 2 in my room and wouldn't know where they were coming from... took me about a week to find the damn things and finally get some proper sleep!
Lol ana..... i had a nest of wasps at the side of my shed...... and for days we couldn't go in to our back garden because if we did they would storm us....... in the end my husband had to go out late one night and spray some stuff on them...... i was scared while he was doing it because i thought that they may all wake up before he got chance to spray them.
At the moment ants are a problem for us..... in my living room..... i've used ant killer but they still keep coming back!!!!!!
By Sybil
Date 02.05.05 22:02 UTC
Hi justlou,
I am having similar problems with ants - but in my kitchen - every day for the past week - I have had hundreds of them - crawling in a line along the floor - then crawling up onto the surfaces - I am treating them with talcum powder and cloves - apparently they will not cross the talcum powder and they don't like the smell of the cloves!
Hope this might be of some help - it does seem to be working for me - if you can find the nest - sprinkle the powder and cloves down there too!
Sybil
Put jam down mixed with ant liquid killer, looks horrid with all the ants there, but they take poison back to nest. plus you will be able to see where nest is with the trail of ants :) lol
Jane
Thanks Sybil & Lazy..... i'll give those a go. My puppy has been trying to find the nest lol.... as he follows the ants before eating them.
Cheers
kerry
Does anyone know the quickest way to kill big black or brown spiders from a distance. I dont get to close no way I wont even go into the same room if theres alive one in there. It has to be dead and out of the room as far away as possible before I will go in again. I bought three of those plug in things that send out high frequencies that attacks the nervous system of insects and rodents. I think they do work as I havent had quite so many in the last three years as I used to, but i do get the odd five or six a year and thats still too many. Caz
Hope our suggestions work kerry, lol at the puppy :) Hi caz. Shoot the b---ers lol. You are the same as me, but i was brave that night because hubby was a way and son was a sleep, so had to terminate the blighter my self lol. Got up this morning to drip drip on my bed the ceiling leaking now,,, Been up the attic but couldnt see where it was coming from. Its all trials for me while he is away. But i can do anything lol. Hubby said the only thing handy about him is that he lives here lmao. Got some uses i suppose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Jane
You went up the attic? All those spiders!!!!
Too dark, what i cant see wont hurt me lol. Am always in attic sorting out, got to make more room because my 23 year old son moveing back end june. gosh all i need is my oldest son to come back then i have all 3 at home again lmao, then hubby would leave i think lol
