i have a litter of pups which are just over 5 weeks now. One of my pups is half the size of her litter mates but up til now seemed to be healthy and developing well. Today i noticed she has eaten or druck anything. Mum doesnt feed them hardly atall now she is just not interested. The little one seems to be very quite compared with the others and sits with her head down. I picked her up just now and she was wet on her head and neck and bubbles coming out of her nose. She keeps shaking her head and her feet and ears are cold. Ive tried to hand feed her but shes not interested. She wouldnt even suckle when i put her next to her mum. Im so worried about her can anyone think what might be the problem?

I would take her to a vet straight away.  My sisters pups had this and it turned out to be a virus, but at such a young age you can't act quickly enough.  I would keep her warm and get her to the vet.

Fiona

edit to add - my sisters pups were all okay in the end, but they did need antibiotic injections and a repeat visit to the vets.

Hi she seems much better this morning stayed up last night and keeped her warm snuggled up to me. I managed to get mum to lay still and the pup had a good 10 minute feed, after that she really perched up and also had some meat. She ate this morning and was playing with her brothers and sister. She's sleeping now. Was thinking maybe she just missed a feed and it brought her sugar level down a bit which made her poorly.

So please to hear your puppy has perked up.  but keep a strict eye just in case it happens again.  I like to give my puppies a little plain live yogurt this helps to settle an upset tummy.  Did you take her temp to see if it was raised.  Sometimes that will take them off their food. Hope alll is well.

Where's Gwen when you need her!  She would be able to give you all the information you need.
