Hello all and thank you in advance for any and all help. We have a beautiful yellow lab who we had borded at a local place here in Missouri. The person working at the boarding place didnt secure that dor lock to our dogs kennel, and it rana away. We arent really looking for like much of a restitution but the boarding keenel is still charging us the fee to keep our dog there even though it ran away. It has been almost 3 weeks now and still no sign of our dog anywhere and the boarder isnt looking or much of a help for us. We have seen a lawer and he suggests to us we get a breeder to value him. We arent of course looking for a emotional value but we are wondering what or how does anyone place a value on a 4 year old dog??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dan

I don't know how you stand legally but I'd be against paying them if it was my dog.  They were to be paid to look after your dog which they haven't done.

How can they charge for boarding a dog that isn't with them?

Hopefully your dog will be found - you must be out of your mind with worry. :(

In your position I'd be so angry I'd see a solicitor, and start any compensation claim (even if my dog turned up) with the cost of a lab puppy (£500 ish?) plus how much he's cost you since you've had him - food, vet's bills etc. Then I'd add a sum for emotional distress - the sky's the limit there. You could never get adequate compensation but they sure as hell need a rocket shoved up where the sun don't shine, to make them take their responsibilities seriously.
