hi
please could you advise what type of collie we have. He is a tri colour short haired male with a longer nose than normal collies we have seen. i have been told that he could be scottish collie but have not heard of them- so not sure how to identify him as one. most collies we have seen are the traditional long haired type . ours has the mane only the rest of his coat is short and smooth. tail arches over his back slightly and has a white tip. please could you help??

Could your collie have been clipped due to matts in his coat before you had him, if thats not too long ago since you got him.At first he sounded like a smooth collie but they are smooth coated all over, never seen one with a mane.Have a look at some pictures on this site of smooth/rough collies and see how he compares.Happy hunting....Gail :) :) :)

I have a similar dog, and was told that the sire was a welsh sheepdog, not a breed as such i believe just a type of border collie that is bred for working ability.

Actually the Welsh Sheepdogs are a breed & were originally a sheepdog bred to work in Wales, they are not the same as a border as they work differently & are not normally sold to anything other than working homes as they do do make good pets as they have a lot of working drive.
