My 12 year old Goldie was operated on on Friday.  She had stopped eating and was very tired.  The vet had done ultra sounds and xrays and could feel she had a very tender tummy they could also see a small swelling in what they though was her spleen, they were unsure of the problem as the swelling was small and wouldn't normally have caused such severe symptoms.  The asked my permission to do an exploratory operation, as she is a fit and healthy 12 year old I agreed.

They feared a tumour in the spleen and that it had spread to the liver they said they would phone me as soon as they could see what the problem was!  This sounds easy but I live in France and my French is not bad but I was terrified I wouldn't understand them!  Anyway to cut a long story short there was a tumour in the spleen and it was removed but also she had cysts on both ovaries and they were very large so she has had those removed as well.  The vet said it was a very large operation for her and that she will be very tired and it will take a while for her to recover.  She stayed over night and I collected her yesterday afternoon she is quite bright in her self and seems comfortable but is not eating very well not appetite at all really but she is drinking well.  She is going back to the vet tomorrow morning he wanted to see her if she hadn't eaten properly.  I wondered if anyone had any similar experiences and any ideas to tempt her into eating or should I let her take her time!  I have tried chicken, fish and rice but no luck.  Many thanks. Further to my earlier post about Abby, my Goldie and her operation I have decided to join as everyone seemed so helpful and so much advice  has been given on this site.  Many thanks to Moonmaiden for your help I have looked up the site you sent me thanks.  For an update on Abby, she had a visit to the vet on Monday as she was still very unhappy and not eating, he gave her a stimulent for her appetite and some gentle laxative as he though that was the problem!  He was right, and now she is beginning to eat almost as normal, although I am keeping her down to three small meals a day.  She is back at the vet today for a dressing change and hopefully the vet will be pleased with her progress, I am.  We get the results from the tests on the tumour next week, so I may be back for more advice later.  Thanks again.
