We rescued an American Straffordshire Terrier from an abandoned home.  We were told he is full breed but no way to know where or who he came from.  Someone else said there is somewhere that if you send them a swab from his cheek and send it to them they can determine if it is full breed and send you papers on him.  Has anyone heard of this and if so please help me to find out where to get more information.  Thanks

No, sorry, it can't be done I'm afraid, for many reasons. DNA swabs can only prove if a dog is the offspring of a dog and bitch who you also have the DNA for - otherwise all it proves is that you have a dog - breeds are genetically far too similar for DNA to prove pure breeding.

Also American Staffordshire Terriers aren't a KC recognised breed in the UK (in fact they're a banned 'type'), so no papers are available at all. Sorry.
