Hi
My staffy had exactly the same thing, he is ten years old now, so I thought it was old age. I had to change his food to 'Burns' after he got a medical condition (Cistine stones in his bladder-long story), and after a few weeks I was amazed to see that his skin was looking pink and youthful again! At first I didnt put it down to the change in food, until my supplier stopped stocking it and we went back to our old brand. Within a very short time his skin went black again and he seemed to age ten years overnight, so I could only put it down to the food. He is now back on Burns and very healthy, with no skin problems! It is a completely natural food with no additives/chemicals/preservatives (I believe they use rosemary as a preservative, but I'm sure someone will be able to correct me on that!) They have a helpline that you can call for health advice and will send you care advice and samples through the post. On the downside I do find it keeps him on the 'lean' side, so I dont use it for my others, as they need more than a maintenance diet. -I believe that as they age (like us) their bodies become less able to break down toxins and these types of skin/digestion problems are the result! BUT there could be underlying problems that should be checked by a qualified vets, so if you are worried you should seek professional advice.
Best wishes :)
