Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / help: caesarean? or not?
- By Guest [gb] Date 29.04.05 10:55 UTC
Hi, Have taken my JRT bitch to vets this morning & vet says if she has not had puppies by tomorrow then she should have a caesarean. is this really necessary??, as she is not even in full labour yet (no panting/pushing etc) & she is not distressed, but her temp has been dropping over the past three days & her cervix is open, she is on day 63!
Vets concern is that she has 6 or 7 pups in there!

Well if you don't take your vet's advice and you lost the pups and the mum you would never forgive yourself.  So I don't see that you really have much choice.

Has the vet tried a shot of oxytocin and/or calcium to get things moving as her cervix is open?  He may do that tomorrow before going ahead with the caesar.

Is that a big litter for the breed?  If she's not even started labour yet surprised that he's wanting to rush things, unless something has shown that they are large pups.  I've had a Pomeranian have a litter of 5 which is large for them average being 1 or 2 and she had them naturally.
