Hi
I am thinking about getting a puppy and I am interested in Siberian Huskies, I have had dogs in the past but not a Siberian Husky, I would like to know if they make good pets? I live in the country so am able to give lots of exersicse,do they suffer from any particular health problems?, how much would be a fair price to pay for a puppy? Any answers you can give would be welcome also any useful addresses or websites.
Thankyou

Go to the Siberian Husky Club of GB and look at the pros and cons of the breed. They do make good pets as long as you live in Fort Knocks as they are incredible escape artists and can never be let off lead as they will run...and run...and run...This is NOT an exaggeration, it is very true. Also if you live in the country you will have to be very careful as they have a really high prey drive and will hunt anything that moves. They make useless guard dogs as they were bred to live in large communities without territorial boundries.

Look into the breed very carefully before making your decision, breed rescue is full to the brim of these beautiful dogs who fall into the wrong hands because of their looks. :-)

Sorry Claire but I have to disagree, there are some Huskies in agility that obviously have to be off lead to compete and they don't disappear over the horizon although they look like really hard work ;-) Guest there are a lot of husky breeders listed on this website, my advice would be to contact some of them and direct any questions there. They are the best people to help you and may have some links to other websites. Good Luck!

Yes and I know two who compete in 'B' and 'C' in Obedience but they are very few and far between and in very experienced hands! :-) If you speak to any of the Sibe owners on here they will tell you the same thing. I did years of research into this breed because I totally fell in love with them, but they are very hard work. None of what I said was exaggerated, it is all true.

Hi there, Here's a couple of links:

http://www.siberianhuskyclub.com/

http://www.scottishshc.org.uk/

Contact the clubs, they will give you lots of advice and put you in contact with Good Breeders who have the relevant tests done. Which is Hip and Eye tests which is very important, or why not consider a Welfare sibe? . Please research the breed carefully as they can be a difficult breed to own if not looked into correctly. Over the next few months there are many Shows taking place why not go along, ,meet the dogs and the owners.

Goodluck
