lil my 7 month old tibetan terrier licked bird droppings today while my dad was minding her now she has diorhrea (sp) any advice the vet is said if she gets diorhrea to bring her to vet but they are now closed
she is also very hot
how do i take a dogs temperature and what would i use and what temperature should it be

i am really worried about her
she is constantly eatting and drinking stuff she shouldnt be at she just has not learned

When I kept chickens my dogs regularly ate their droppings (they still love pelleted chicken manure fertiliser), so personally I would blame the diarrhoea on something else. Make sure she drinks plenty of water, don't give her anything to eat, and keep an eye on her.

A dog's temperature is taken by a thermometer in the rectum, and different types of thermometer need to be used differently. It's not something I'd recommend you try doing without having been shown how.

dad rang vet today and he said that birds carry salmonella and gastro and that if she get diarrhoea to bring her to vet but of course they is emergency vet number i can ring
she is not out of form or lying down she is playing with mollie no problem s

hopefully she will be ok she is so bold always eatting stuff she shouldnt eat

Gastroenteritis isn't a transmittable disease in itself - it's a symptom (inflamed stomach and intestines - gastro meaning 'of the stomach' and enteric meaning 'of the intestines' with itis meaning 'inflammation') for which you need to find the cause.

Salmonella infection does indeed cause gastroenteritis (and can take up to 5 days to develop from ingesting the infective agent), but having had it myself I can assure you that she would be feeling extrememly out of sorts if she had it. If she's happy in herself I personally wouldn't be too worried. Hopefully she'll be a lot better in the morning.

If you can find a way to stop a dog eating things it shouldn't I'd be very intrested to learn how it's done! I've never succeeded yet!

Normal dogs temperature should be between 37 and 39 degrees.  It's better to use a digital thermometer rather than a glass one in case it breaks if the dog struggles.
As Jeangenie said it's up the bot so don't put it back under your tongue afterwards ;)

we rang the vet to see was it ok to give her antiobiotic we had left over from last time when she drank from the pond and got colitis and gastro and he said we could so i gave it to her and have been starving her

will give her chicken and rice tonight

lil had a runny tummy again late last night after her dinner which was hills science diet dry food plus the tinned hills so we brought her to vet to day and he gave her antibiotic injection and also electrolyte drink and we were told to give her that all day and also tonight give her just the tinned hills she seems alot better

if anyone has ideas how to stop the little rascal from eatting everything please let me know

Sorry no remedy for a TIbetan Terrier puppy like most puppies they want to know the whay why and wherfores of everything, her tummy will get stronger as she grows. We only have on old TT and he is still into everything still

I have a parsons terrier, Buffy , shes five months old... and eats everything- today she has an upset tummy and is very quiet and sleepy, not sure if it was the two snails she ate yesterday or the ham (which shes never had before in her kong) will see if she's still icky in the morning, if she is will pop to the vets... in the meantime.... if there is the perfect cure for hoover dogs - let me know!

i think the cause of buffys upset tummy could be both the snails and the ham i was always told by my dad never to give pig meat to a dog as they can not digest it also snails could have caused it too

if she still has a runny tummy and a temperature tomorrow bring her to the vet would rather be safe then sorry

Our dog also cannot eat any type of pork, its like a scourer and goes straight through her.

HI, sorry i've not replied back... buffy has kept me really busy.... no the pork was not the problem she can eat it fine now and no problems but i think its the snails..... as she had two on sunday and then had runny tummy again....  I keep finding them and putting them over the fence of the other gardens!!!

I keep playing trade and swap games to get them off her but you have to be quick! strange tastes
