Hello everyone.....
Can anyone help me stop my collie cross puppy raiding the bin, its not like she is starving her bowl is always full.. i dont give her human treats an have always treated her with dog treats, i shout at her an she knows its wrong but still every mornong the bin is all over the kitchen floor, its doing my head in as i have early mornings, with rug crawling babys... any suggestions?

Move the bin out of her way overnight or weight the lid down so she can't get into it.  It's easier just to move it.

Edited just to say - she won't know that she's done wrong.  She'll just know that when you get up in the morning you shout :( and that could make her afraid.

There is no point in shouting at her as she will only take it as you being angry in the mornings& she will not know it is wrong , to be honest I don't have a bin in the kitchen that the dogs can get at(part of the sink unit). All your puppy is doing is exploring her world & a bin is just something else to explore. My dogs do have crates & on a night that is where my puppies sleep with the door shut & as adult with the doors open on a nght

They have toys & are fed in their crates

No matter how well behaved your dog is there will always be times when you just can't risk them raiding the bin, when there are cooked bones in there for instance.  I think it is safer all round if you fit a bin to the inside of the unit door and then you can rest easy.  Of course if you have the sort of dog that can open unit doors then you will have to fit a catch on it.

Well she opend the rabbit hutches no problem which lead to vet bills for the bunnies, but hasn't got the kitchen doors open yet, lol thanks for the advice...

I always lock my inside bin out the way, it's like saying to a child dont touch they always do.  Dogs may become bored through the night and think they will have a late night snack especially if there's left overs in there and they smell really nice.  I thinks it's so dangerous to leave a bin with dogs around with can tops left on the cans.

After going home a few times to find the kitchen bin and the contents of it strewn all over my house I learned my lesson and the bin now goes outside every morning!!

Finding old eggshells with bits of bin gunk in my bed was not pleasant but I'm sure Glazby was only trying to help me somehow at the time!!!  :D

Unfortunately I know it's a pain but the only way if she's like my dogs is to keep it out of the kitchen :d
