Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / How far off whelping??

Hi, I have a border terrier bitch who is on day 64! I did not get any sleep last night as she was pacing the room, whining & digging at my washing basket (she's not too keen on her whelping box!).
Anyway she expelled a little clear fluid from the vulva on Saturday & since then has shown indications of pre-labour...
Also yesterday & today she has has quite a bit more clear fluid!
She had been very restless, but now appears to be sleeping alot! I took her to the vets this morning just to get her checked & the vet took her temp (which has dropped) & checked for milk (which there was none!). However I have just checked her nipples now & there is a little milk!
How far from whelping do you think she is?. My vet seems to think it could be another 48 hours yet, I hope not as I'm concerned that she isn't eating a great deal (I know that this is normal, but when it's your own bitch that isn't eating it can be quite worrying!).
Anyway thanks for any ideas.... Sally x.

Going off her food is a sign she's nearly ready.  As long as she's not straining/pushing for more than a couple of hours don't panic.  If she seems to be pushing and getting nowhere you should take her to the vets asap as she may be having trouble giving birth.  Panting is a good sign too and you may see her waters break.

Good luck.
