Willis has a flat black blot in his eyeball. Doesn't seem to bother him - no swelling or weeping etc. It seemed to move about but now seems still at the bottom of his eyeball - on the inside of the glass bit if you know what I mean...
Willis does not like vets, and frankly, I wouldn't let one near his eye anyway. It does seem to be getting bigger though.
Does anyone have any idea of what it could be?

That sounds very peculiar.

The fact that it's mobile is odd - are you
positive it's on the inside and not the outside?

Might it be a little spot like the red ones some people get in their eyes when a blood vessel bursts??
Generally just goes away on its own.

Definitely on the inside. And its definitely grown. Its been there a few weeks....

I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and get it looked at professionally. The debris from a burst blood vessel would have dispersed by now, and there's zippo in all my books that even sounds close. :(

Hum. Have no faith on vets with dane eyes since they tried to operate on him for a cherry eye he doesn't have

Can't see that they could do anything anyway - I certainly wouldn't let them open up his eyeball!

Absolutely not!! At least it's not bothering him or affecting his sight. But I'd be curious to know what it was - perhaps a specialist rather than a GP vet? Is he insured?

Nope. I stopped insuring him and Phoebe and I save the money instead. If I felt he was in pain I would take him...doesn't seem to be affecting his eyesight. Might try and get a pic and mail it to you?

I can quite understand about the cost of insurance. Yep, try to get a pic (that'll keep you and J busy!) and I'll see if it matches anything in my books.
At least it's not bothering Will.
Hi, my puppy had this, and it was noticeable because his eye is blue - sometimes it seemed to be on the top part of the iris, and then other times it wasn't there like it had moved higher under the lid, and then it would appear back again. It never got bigger though, and I can't say I've noticed it recently. He did have his eyes checked before I got him, so I never worried about it really, and it didn't seem to affect him in any way - though I would like to know what it is!

interesting point - if his eye was black or dark it couldn't be seen...

Is it confined to his iris, or the sclera as well?
Googling has so far only turned up [link http://cnri.edu/content_list.asp?contentid=141&contenttypeid=8]this[/link], which is probably no help at all (and also won't enlinkify

).

No, its bigger than that. Its a solid black blob and it seems to float around the outside of the pupil - it seems to be mostly at the bottom of his eye though. No other symptoms at all... will get a pic tomorrow (or try to!)

Here it is - this is what it looks like: http://insight.med.utah.edu/opatharch/images/uvea/22241.jpg
Did a search on google groups and found someone else who has been to an eye specialist - apparently when it moves its because it has detached. Will get the vet to have a look when he goes in next week for a check up :)

That's weird. I can't see anywhere what they call it ...
Though I did find
this. Do danes get vWD?

Nope - thats not it. Its a vitriostic cyst or something like that....

All I can find (link
this) are free-floating cysts
within the eyeball behind the iris, but I think we're getting there.
:)

Nope - the one I linked above is exactly what Willis has in his eye...

Chloe, could it be a small fly that has flown into the eye and lodged itself under the lens? I have known grass seeds to do this

I don't think that you can be too careful where eyes are concerned :) There are lots of conditions (certainly in humans) that can be treated if caught early - but can cause blindness if left. You can't really tell if he is experiencing any symptoms - they may be painless. I'd get an expert opinion if it were my mine :)

I think you need referal to an opthalmologist not your GP vet! If you do a search on canine health schemes eye scheme you should be able to get a number of find a list of the BVA panelists to find one nearest you.
