Doing an assignment on agility.

Anyone who does agility tournaments with their dogs give me some reasons why they do it?

Is it purely for the dogs benifit?
Purely for the owners?
For both?
Why is it good for dogs etc etc.

Cheers big ears!

Its fun for the dogs its good for them and keeps them fit and it excercises their minds aswel as their bodies its a great day out and great for meeting new doggie people. Id say its a good thing for both dogs and owners

I've not been doing it for long - did it for a couple months last year, and am just about to get into it again.  I do it for the dogs and for me - keeps all of use nice and fit (well, gets me fit first _then_ it'll keep me fit!!), and it gives the dogs something to do.  I own a dobe and a rotti X, both working breeds (or mix of them anyhoo), so they need something to work at, to think about - and agility fits the bill.  Plus, they are both very energetic dogs so it helps that too.

I find it helps with the bond I have with them - they have fun and so do I, and they get more responsive to me as well.

Makes me proud when they get the hang of another obstacle too :)

I do it for my dog and for myself.  I enjoy training my dogs, and my dogs enjoy learning as well (or so it would seem that way....maybe it's just the treats??)  I do it with my 11 y/o dog for fun because he's retired from obedience, and it helps stimulate his mind to keep it sharp.  I'm out of tricks to teach him, but making him think for himself on the agility course should keep him bright.  I do it with my younger dog because he really seems to enjoy it.  Obedience training can be monotonous and a little boring at times, but the obstacles in agility mix things up.  I enjoy it for myself because it gives me time to work and bond with my dogs as a team.
