Both my boxers Woo-woo at me when mithering for a walk or their tea and make Chewbacca noises with each other when they play their "bitey" games. We have 2 staffy's next door who both make strange "hyena" type noises when crying. Just wondering what noises your dogs made and if they are unique to each breed.

Hi!!  Glazby my boxer also makes "woo-woo-woo" noises at us when he's looking for attention!!  He also makes little snuffley noises when he's dreaming and snores like a good'un!!  :D

He also has a habit of talking back - if you tell him NO to something he'll look at you and the tail will start to wag and if you say NO again he does a little wiggle bum and does a little squeaky noise back!!
- By aimibobs [gb] Date 26.04.05 15:09 UTC
Hey mine do that too - argue back with their chins in the air and their flews go more triangular if you know what I mean!!
- By aimibobs [gb] Date 26.04.05 15:11 UTC
If they want their tea and are woo wooing we tease them and go to the patio and ask if they want a wee wee - our old one jumps up and down and argues like mad and "kidney beans" (bends right round like a kidney bean shape) as she knows sh shouldnt be arguing !!

hehe this made me giggle so much. Maddy our Boxer does Chewbacker noises and we always call her chewy hehehe. She does it when shes moaning at her brother because he's got something she wants. Taz our gsd/lab groans something rotten whenever he is relaxed he growns like an old man even tho he's a bouncy puppy, hehe

Our Gordon Maddie does woo-woo-woo noises when she gets excited or if she thinks she isn't getting enough attention. She had a litter of 7 puppies not long ago (not advertising as they all have homes) and they are becoming very vocal too. I apologised to my neighbours the other day as I swear they are practising the woo-wooing. They are soooo cute when they bark and growl at each other, however when they are screaming at me for their dinner at 11 at night its not quite so funny or cute!!!  :D My other girl Keevy Irish setter makes a kind of woo-woo cross bark cross growling noise when she gets excited, if she is sitting by me and feels she needs another pet she will do a low grumbling sound to let me know. She is so spoilt!!! Her daughter Brianna who is 15 months now makes similar noises but she isn't nearly as vocal as the others :D :D

My old girl does a kind of throaty 'purr' when she's reallly contented - when you talk to her she does it even louder :D - cute !

One of my Spanish sounds like Chewbacca tooo when she's excited :d  Anton just has a very high pitched bark aggghhhh.  The one thing that they all do which is not a noise but equally annoying sometimes is jump high into the air.
- By digger [gb] Date 26.04.05 18:29 UTC
Missy the ESS makes a purring noise too - we call it 'mooing'......  When she's deeply comfortable on the settee usually ;)

Malamutes are well known for their WOOOOING :) Oh and their rumbling and snuffling and the Chewbacca noise (did you kow George Lucas used to own a Malamute? :) )

In fact, I can count on one hand the times that I have heard either of mine actually bark ;)

I have an Aussie who fancies herself as a Husky impersonator :D

Met my 1st Malamute last wednesday and she was very vocal - wanting attention all the time.

One of my friends Spanish has a really deep growling noise when he's excited and when he's being stroked.  When people hear him they think that he's about to attack, he sounds awful :d

My bulldog pup snores, grunts and grumbles like an old man when he is grumpy, or when he is having a poo in the morning when it is cold! He is just so funny, the noises he comes out with half the time sound more human than they do doggy :-D He kind of squeaks when he wants cuddles :-) Wouldn't be able to sleep in the same room with him, the snoring would drive me mad.

Apart from a range of standard canine noises (snore, whine in sleep etc.) I think Giant Schnauzers GRUMBLE! It is a sound I haven't heard any other breed make, it is sort of a pre-growl: "I am a bit annoyed/a bit nervous but don't want to show it" sort of a noise. My Molly also grumbles in her sleep (darn bunny got away again) and Giants appear to do that when they are a bit vary of strangers. In a big male the sound is low like thunder, and people new to these dogs always get freaked out and say "EEk that dog is growling at me!" Molly also grumbles when she first wakes up after a good long nap, or if she has to drag herself to the garden for a wee at night when she'd rather be asleep. A Giant's way of moaning, I guess! :D
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 27.04.05 16:32 UTC
That's the kind of grumble that my friends dog does, his son who I have does it occasionally too!  It is a noise that scares people who don't realise that it's nothing to worry about though :d

My roomate has 2 Aussies and I've heard just about every noise possible from them.  Quite vocal.

LOLOLOL at the 'Hyenas' , we had visitors recently and Angel and Molly screeched and cried to come and see who was visiting. Our visitors were stunned as they thought someone was being murdered outside! One of my friends went to a fete in the summer and heard the distinctive  whine and just knew there was Staffy about-I've never heard another dog doing it! (Thank goodness I dont have neighbours :D)
- By aimibobs [gb] Date 29.04.05 12:21 UTC
Ah harrr - so it is a staffy trait then !!!!
Any more staffies do it?
- By chaliepud [gb] Date 29.04.05 14:51 UTC
My Lab X woo-oooh, my girl talks and moans, but my Cattle Dog, SHRIEKS!!!!!  Unfortuately one of the breeds not so good points, and the only noise guaranteed to wake my sleeping baby - who can sleep through anything (and I include the smoke alarm in his room!), anything but the shriek!!!
- By ilovemygirls [gb] Date 29.04.05 15:09 UTC
my staffies grunt like pigs,it sounds so funny when i walk them
- By shabbagirl [gb] Date 28.05.05 13:41 UTC
LOL ilovemygirls. Our staffie grunts like a pig also; she sounds like a steam train when people visit us and makes funny little warbling noises when she wants attention.  She never barks or growls agressively but when greeting visitors (with a toy in her mouth) she growls, those who know her just laugh but I have seen a few worried looking visitors until we explain it's her way of saying hello.
- By wheaten_mad [gb] Date 28.05.05 18:31 UTC
There is a italian spinoni i know who does that :D Wheatens woo-woo like aimibobs said lottie does it the most when she is going for a walk its sooo cute :D

Shiba's do what is called a "grodel" - it's a cross between a growl and a yodel - most amusing - Roxy does it all the time when she's excited.  Lennon has yet to learn...... :) :)
- By Dill [gb] Date 29.05.05 15:58 UTC
The Staffys next door made some really strange noises when they first came to live next door, we all thought it sounded like JURASSIC PARK  I've never heard noises like that from a dog!!  they also Yodel, and make really high pitched screaming noises, sometimes they sound as if they are killing each other.  Oh and they also have a high pitched bark bark too!

I once knew a smooth-haired dachshund dog (Solomon) with the deepest, loudest bark ever!, if you couldn't see him bark you'd think it was a great dane or mastiff!!

My own Bedlingtons have a bell-like bark, it really rings in your ears.  They also play growl like mad, which is different from their real growls ;)  The one of them 'gruffs' and does the wiggly bum thing when wanting to play with us which is really cute :) and they both talk in quiet 'wuffs' when they want something :)

I've got two huskies. One of which made a person come up to me in the street and ask if i had a wolf in the garden because of the howling he did. The other has a very deep croaky howl. Can't really explain it but you'll just have to imagine a man transforming into a werewolf on hallowe'en. You'll soon get the idea! LOL
- By racheljr [gb] Date 29.05.05 16:29 UTC
i have a husky pup,she howls alot! she also makes this strange sort of baby talk??? think shes been copying my 10 month old son!!!
