We took Ralph to Loggerheads yeaterday, if you live in driving distance go, it is the best walk for dogs ever. Ralph had is very first swim he loved it, he wasn't as cocky as I thought he would be though, he kept close and didn't swim too far away. He slept for three hours solid when we got home. When he woke up he gave me a huge cuddle and licked my face all over. I think that was his way of saying 'I had a great day Mum.'

my 18week staff had her first taste of the deep this weekend.

We throw a stick.................into the lake.she chased it.not realising that the water isnt solid like the ground.big splash..........she vanished underwater for what seemed like ages......... the popped up..and swam straight back to us.

It can be said it was cruel.......... but was funny....... and she didnt cry or seem to complain.............. just showered us the instant she was on land with a big shake down...........thanks for that !!!   lol

Its lovely to hear of dogs swimming, mine are water magnets and spend quite a bit of their time wet.  I am less happy about people throwing sticks for their dogs.  Darrens_here please don't throw sticks for your dog as you could do terrible damage.  If you do a search you will find plenty of threads detailing the damage that can be done.

PS Loggerheads, North Wales??

Loggerheads.  What some people are on this site :d :d  Sorry couldn't resist.  Would love to know where it is though.

Just be very careful. Staffies are well renowned for their poor swimming skills and can get into trouble quite quickly.

Yeah it's in north wales. It's right by Colomendy: well known school holiday place. Not far from mould - well worth the visit.

Hi

I love watching dogs, having a paddle or a swim. Woody 7 months old, has been going in the water for ages. In fact you cant keep him out. He sulks if he doesnt get his daily paddle.

Hi
I am not trying to spoil any dogs fun but I think the link below has some relevant info in it on swimming.

Glazby isn't so keen on swimming as such but is still a water magnet - he likes to wade out in the water, stick his head under and splash about but I've only ever seen him swim once when he waded out a bit too far and lost his footing!!

The best water is the blackest muddiest bit of water he can find of course and once he's spotted it there is no stopping him - selective hearing of his mum's screams of Nooooooo behind him!!!  :D

Wow I had completely forgotten about Loggerheads, I grew up near there (and did my work experience- being a ranger- there) very cool place, great walks. I want to teach my puppy to swim but there is nowhere safe I can think of down here (Cardiff), maybe I should take a trip to my parents and let him have a swim in the Alyn.

It is an excellent place for a first swimming lesson, most of the water is still with a mild current in places and you an wade in if neccessary. It's brilliant for socialisation aswell lots of other dogs around.
I'm hoping we have nice weather so we can go back at the weekend.
