I have decided that I would like to enter the show world, but have no idea how to go about it. I normally work my labs but have one that chases everything in sight so I thought I would try her paw at showing. We have been to lots of companion dog shows and a couple of open shows but we were given the entry forms by someone. My question is, How do I find out where and when open shows are  where do I get entry forms from. We would like to start by going to a few in our area (Norfolk) just to see how she gets on. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You should find adverts for the open and champ shows in the dog papers, giving the information and the closing date :D  ( Our Dogs and Dog World ) :D  When you're at an open show look out for the show schedules for other open shows, there are usually a few about.  Don't forget to get talking to people at the shows (especially if they're giving out show schedules) its surprising how helpful some people can be when you're just starting out ;) :)  And don't forget to buy a raffle ticket, brownie points are always useful :D :D

Thank you, i will go and buy them mags tomorrow, sorry to be a pain but would you mind telling me the difference between an open show and a champ show.

Open shows are shows were any dog can nter providing there are classes for the breed, or variety classes or import register classes that cover there breed

Championship shows are where the KC has issued Challenge Certificates for some or all of the breeds that have them available & winning or being placed at them in certain classes qualiies you for Crufts the general champ shows are usually on more than one day & can have upwards of 10,000 dogs entered

At championship shows you can win CCs toward making your dog a Champion. 

Different breeds have a different number of these based on the breeds popularity. 

My own is a numericaly small breed so to keep competition strong we only get 18 sets of these Challenge certificates available at shows per year.  The other Championship shows may have classes of the breed without CCs so counting as an Open show win for that breed.

You can get the dog papers Our Dogs & Dogs World or go to the KC site click on the shows link then onto the KC Gazette Evenets link & all the shows upto June are on there on a link on that page

The secretary's details will be on there & the schedule includes an entry form which the secretary will send you you might even find some of the shows have websites as well
