Does the rule on how far to walk your puppy apply to all breeds even those that are not predisposed to hip problems?
What about small terriers like jack Russels?   I don't mean walk them until they are ready to drop, but would you be as strict with thier exercise?

Basically yes as they take many more steps and are usually pretty active at home in the garden anyway so likely get more excersse anyway. :D

Personally I wouldn't be particularly strict, with mine I tend to walk them a short distance see how they get on and build it up by increasing the length every few days depending on how much energy they seem to have spare.  Like toddlers I think you can soon learn to judge if they are soldiering on when they shouldn't be :) With the small breeds, especially, you can always pick them up if you think they are tiring :)  I do like mine to exercise reasonably well as juniors as I believe it builds strong hearts and lungs.
Woops! it looks like you are not going to get a consensus :), maybe its best to take the breeders advise for a particular breed or just go with your instincts.
