Was at the pet store today an noticed cold tar and sulpher shampoo for dogs. Was wondering has anybody tried it, and is it good or shouldnt be used.

Hi lazydaze,

I have used Polytar Shampoo on my dog (from boots chemists) and that seems okay.  Someone recommended it to me because it is meant to be good for skin conditions.  Polytar is a coal tar based shampoo and is about £3.99 a bottle. :-)

I use coal tar shampoo on my Spanish.  Not because they have any skin problems but for some reason it makes their curls really curly and their cords look wonderful :d

I think i should use it on my own hair, wouldnt have to have a perm then lol.
Thanks for the replys

Hi lazydaze,

Yes it is in a brown bottle and might be in another place away from the normal shampoos (it was in our local Boots anyway) probably with the dandruff and special shampoos.

It is not at the shampoo bit ask at Pharmacy they will point it out for you. There is 2 types now both the same price, one is normal and one is extra strength.

We use it but dilute it down a great deal.

Hilton Herbs also do a coal tar, neem oil & Tea Tree shampoo meant for horses/dogs.

Lush do a shampoo which smells of tar (contains cade oil) which I know some dog owners use on their dogs if they have to bathe them for flaking skin conditions. Also, they do a chamomile and marigold shampoo called 'the blond' and I know a lady who uses it on her GR before shows and her coat is beautifully silky and soft.
